Domains - Scam!
We talked about this a week or so ago but the emails have begun to keep coming more frequently. If you get an email like this it is a scam to get you to pay for an appraisal.
--------------------------------- We are interested to buy your domain name xxxx.COM and offer to buy it from you for 80% of the appraised market value. As of now we accept appraisals from either one of the following leading appraisal companies: - fleos.com - sedo.com If you already have an appraisal please forward it to us. As soon as we have received your appraisal we will send you our payment (we use paypal for amounts less than $2,000 and escrow for amounts above $2,000) as well as further instructions on how to complete the transfer of the domain name. We appreciate your business, Yours truly, Mark Evans ----------------------- This is the reply I sent although one really isn't necessary: If you want to buy the domain make an offer. If you want an appraisal to guide you in your offer buy one. I will not pay for an appraisal for you. |
Uhh what? :)

Yeah welcome to 1995.... they basically try to sell you an appraisal and never buy the domain.. thats it

Are there actually still people falling for this scam?

stupid fucks lol :glugglug

yeah they never buy it for what they say anyway, even if you already have an appraisal and in the odd case they are not BSing

Somebody should find out who is perpetrating the scam, and have the guy arrested.

If there is someone to question it would be the appraisal companies listed. Just about everyone goes with the cheaper fee, instead of the more reconized company. The one thing you learn on these boards is that domains are worth what someone is willing to pay for it...so no need for an appraisal. How about this other legal scam....you read an ad in a newspaper about how to make a ton of money...please send $1 and a self address stamped envelope. You get the info about how to make money, and they tell you to just place a ton of ads in newspapers asking for $1 for the same info you just received. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh |

Everyone and their mother who owns a domain has gotten this over the years. If you haven't yet, then your whois info is probably false.
