Google, Yahoo, and the rest

Should you allow all the search engines catalog your sites or keep them blocked in a robots.txt file?

Pleasurepays 07-27-2009 03:38 PM

block all search engines. google will penalize you if you're getting indexed in msn.com and ask.com... better not to risk it.

:1orglaugh

but seriously, if you are getting annoyed with cuil wasting your bandwidth, then block away, not like the traffic from them adds up to much to worry about anyways:2 cents:

mabcom 07-27-2009 03:40 PM

That includes blocking google too? I just always assumed links with good niche sites that match your site is always the better way to go.

create a robots.txt file with this info:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /

this will also help your bandwidth bills stay to a minimum.

or this will help you target a niche better:

User-agent: Relevant Niche
AllowOnly: /

That should do the trick, especially with the price of bandwidth these days :thumbsup

d-null 07-27-2009 03:49 PM

google traffic is way overrated anyways, you might as well block it rather than suffer the heartache of 0:10,000 ratios that you will get when you build your google traffic up eventually

search engine traffic is worthless. people use search engines to find free porn, not pay for it. once i removed search engines like google my income tripled overnight!

WiredGuy 07-27-2009 11:01 PM

I block all SE traffic. Its garbage.

This is patently false- google traffic can range from bad to incredibly good depending on what kind of site you are running. I know an adult webmaster/photographer who has a very well known famous name - people typing in his name into google is his NUMBER ONE source of sales - if he blocked google or other SE's he would be eliminating 60 percent of his revenue.

Sorry dude but what a dumb statement.

Aren't you the guy who said you've been an adult webmaster for the past 15 years? Why are you posting questions like this, then? It sounds like you have no experience, if you don't already know you should be blocking Google and all other search engines from indexing your sites. :2 cents:

cam_girls 07-28-2009 04:47 AM

some great tips from SEO gurus here!

AtlantisCash 07-28-2009 04:50 AM

Sorry if my reply was a bit mean, but something must be wrong with this thread or either i m not getting the entire question correctly.

If you have a name brand vehicle and people are looking for YOUR URL by typing in YOUR brand name - Google and other SE's convert VERY well... For most of you it may be garbage, but for certain brands it works out well. Saying everyone should block them is inaccurate.

since the search engines wars have heated up with the arrival of bing, you are automatically de-indexed from google for being indexed in bing.

Slutboat 07-28-2009 06:18 AM

OK you got me

i know about the recent heat between SE.s, but as i know they just fuck with each other, let's say if That's even happening, it may lower Your pr, i don't think You will get de indexed or something like that.
