Did anybody see that F1 crash of Felipe Massa today?

He was doing about 240 km/hour when a piece of metal comming from Barrichellos car hit him on his helmet. He passed out in the car, barelly hit the breaks and went straight into the tires.
In Europe news reports are he has a bone lesion of the skull, he was taken to the hospital where he had surgery. Reports say he is in a coma at intensive care at the moment.

I watched today's qualifications and it was horrible! Hope he will be fine, I just read on Italian websites that he is in coma right now but his life is not in danger. Hope it will be fine!!!

Machete_ 07-25-2009 04:43 PM

he scrub'ed enough speed to "only" be doing about 130 km&h when he hit the walls. He was doing around 270 km/h when it hit him, but brakes + sandtrap + a very very safe race track with great tirewalls made sure it dident end in total disaster

Jdoughs 07-25-2009 04:52 PM

I don't think the impact with the wall was as rough as taking that 2.2lb spring in the forehead at 170mph (plus whatever speed the spring was coming at).

Youch.

Awww nuts.

Damn man that sucks, I hope he pulls out of it. I used to race, so I hate seeing bad crashes like that and F1 open cockpits always make me cringe.

I always shake my head when I see these types of stories, lemme guess, guy has wife and kids and instead of speding time with them and living out his days, he wanted to risk it all for a flag... well,... he made his choice, hopefully his family can live with his decisions.

EscortBiz 07-25-2009 05:51 PM

hopefully he gets well soon and its not another famous M situation

Chariott 07-25-2009 08:24 PM

Yeah what a fool, out doing what he loves, what he is a pro at, and making about 16 million dollars a year.

He should really do something with his life.

WDG 07-26-2009 04:59 AM

I heard reports on the news just now he's in an induced coma, and likely to be brain damaged.

That was hellishly unlucky to be hit by debris like that, not sure if you say the video, but it could have gone anywhere.

I didnt call him a fool, but money doesnt mean anything now, does it?

Not everyone is stuck on the material goods of this world. As I approach fatherhood, I am only now realizing this. He made his decision, as I said, hope his famly can live with it. Dont be so negative towards another mans appreciation of life and family. The money and thrills were worth more than his life and family to him, thats for sure.

xenigo 07-26-2009 05:16 AM

This shit is pissing me off. No matter WHAT link I click on You Tube having to do with that crash, I get this message; "This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions."

What the fuck!

TisMe 07-26-2009 05:26 AM

Come on man, you are smarter then that.

Tom_PM 07-26-2009 10:13 AM

Wow, and just one week ago in Formula 2, a bouncing tire from a crash killed driver Henry Surtees.
I can't recall even 1 previous incident of freak debris strikes and now there's 2 right in a row in the F series.

Jarmusch 07-26-2009 11:09 AM

I guess it's just a matter of time until this is introduced:

sorry but what a bunch of BS :2 cents:

VeriSexy 07-26-2009 09:18 PM

Freak accident.. just horrible

Spunky 07-26-2009 09:50 PM

I'm really surprised more drivers aren't killed. dangerous sport and takes huge balls

X37375787 07-26-2009 09:54 PM

Talking about being shit out of luck. What are the odds...

Fortunately though, the spring didn't slam into the clear visor bit of the helmet, that would have most definitely killed him instantly.

WeirdHomer 07-26-2009 11:27 PM

The FIA ruled that Renault was to blame for the bouncing wheel on the track on Sundays race, they gave a penalty, Renault is excluded from next race. The FIA is totally dropping the ball on this one IMHO.... fire the fucker that gave Alonso the sign to take off in the pits while somebody was still working on that right front tire. Renault didn't brake any rules here, the driver got the sign to take off so he did, like all drivers would do. Alonso had to stop the race and can't compete in next race while he was driving first, there goes his championship. That guy who lifted the sign "brakes off, first gear" clearing Alonso to take off should be given to him personally to beat up :error

It's his Job and Passion. Just like everyone should have.
I'm sure he met his Wife while racing.

tranza 07-27-2009 05:51 AM
