That sucks. I just caught an hour long piece on PBS about the apollo 11 mission, including some moonwalking footage btw. So at least there's those small bits.

the footage that they do have is simply amazing. probably saw the same one when they went over the entire landing within seconds of not being able to land / lost forever. great footage

strange that there were no requests for full copies at the time or even later, since the footage is public domain isn't it (NASA being 100% publicly funded that is)?

That's really sucks. I believe that Apollo 11 expedition really was at the Moon. On the other hand, I believe that the famous video everyone saw was actually filmed somewhere in Hollywood just because it was almost impossible for those times to air it to Earth in real time.

Trip to moon was complexly useless anyway since trips didn't continued nor moon base was build.

they should have been backed up immediatly and the originals stored in the best care possible.

that was a societal and historical tragedy right there.

We where not the first on the moon anyway, if we even went to the moon.
They shat bricks when they saw there where already ruins and buildings, thought "gfy" and went straight back to earth.

Right. Because that's the sort of footage you just leave laying around so you can erase by mistake or lose track of.

You would also leave the camera that shot that footage behind on the moon, where it belongs.
