Getting name and address from IP address
I'm getting threats online. I have his ip address, anyway of figuring out his full name and address or is this something i'd have to get from his ISP?
|
You need a court order (or court ruling) before the ISP will give out those kind of informations
|
you need to go true law services
|
I could be dead by the time it makes it to the courts, meh, thanks for the info dudes.

If I had a nickle for every time some doofus threatened me on GFY I'd have about $8

go to cops? cops will arrest the guy who got the info before they arrest the threat maker so why not if you really are scared as you sound run to cops? so you say your man enough and you'll handle it yourself? once again this will mean problems to the guy who gave you info |

The ISP will then tell the police the real name and location (if its in the same country) so they can investigate the threat |
if you are really that pissed off, apply for a job at the isp and do alot of observing and learning and figure out a way and when you get a chance to get into the logs do some snooping to find his address and name, then be careful that you don't mistake the father as the culprit when it might be a 15 year old kid that has a computer in his room :1orglaugh

Often cops won't lay charges based on a threat unless they feel the person has the capability and intentions of following through with the threat.
At least that's the way it is in our neck of the woods. Your experience may vary. |
Most everyone above is right, however sometimes it is easy.
Back when I first got on dsl with swbell I had 5 statis ips assigned. When you went to ARIN and looke up those ips it showed my name and address. So, first thing you do is find what info you can for free, what isp they are on etc. You never know what you might stumble across. just my :2 cents: |

Im not even paying attention to the trashing trolls that try and send out threats on a daily basis. Dont waste your time, real killers dont send out messages hmkay. |
Nowadays you CAN't do Shit with an IP address.
If someone commites a crime online, he can hire a lawyer and say that he didn't commmite the crime, and someone else connected to his WIFI connection and did that crime... he can just delete all the tracks from his registry and OS... also many ips are dynamic.. and even considering there are LOGs on the Ip company.. it's impossible to proof a case, unless they caught the guy realtime when he's doing the crime... Also proxies make it even worse to track those guys down... Even the FBI gets daily threats from all over the world and they just ignore them... Nowadays, it is impossible to be judged by that, except in very specific cases. |
if this were a book and i was explaining purely for entertainment , heres what i would do.
first find out his city from ip spoof his ip , make a post on some forum claiming threats against law enforcement officials in his city using his ip. Spoof your ip from a foreign country and then contact his local law enforcement by email as a concerned citizen from another country worried about threats he made on a forum. of course that would be totally illegal and get you in alot ,more trouble if caught than he would be for making threats against you, but it would scare the piss out of him i bet. the end of ficticious story for entertainment purposes only |
