My computer is freezing up
It has no virus's and heavy software installed,
what might be the reasons? new fan? its not making loud noises.. |
It's sitting too close to the AC..
haha no idea but i had to reformat my machine today cause of a very bad Trojan that i got today. I spent 3 hours trying to get rid of with many different programs.. thank god i just backed up all my shit 2 days ago so i only had to back up a few things today. |
Ie 8
:D |
Time for a restore.
|
Tons of possible causes.
What did you check for viruses with? If it's AVG/Norton/McAffee, they fucking blow. Boot in Safe Mode w/ Networking and do the online scanner at bitdefender.com (IE only). Something could have worked it's way loose. Reseat CPU heatsink, RAM, expansion cards, cables. Is SMART enabled in your BIOS for your harddrive(s)? If not, enable it and check for warnings when it's booting. Maybe it's a bad DVD drive? They can make your machine act funny sometimes. |
Kick it until it respects you
|
mike mentioned restore and thats your best option to start
go to start - programs - accessories - system tools- system restore pick a date when your machine was good then after the reboot see if its better |
system restore didnt work ...

try a program called malwarebytes
|
"Freezes up" normally means that some program is taking 100%, or
nearly 100% of your CPU, so nothing else can run, or it runs VERY slowly. Hit ctrl-alt-delete, then go have lunch. See if your task list is up when you come back and shows a process using all of the CPU. If not, boot into safe mode and see how it works. If so, that means some program which does not run in safe mode is the problem. To find out which one, disable all startup programs and re-enable them one at a time. Also try disabling Flash. Some Flash animations can lock you up with some versions of Flash. The idea there is that the Flash file says to run with the highest possible frame rate and Flash does just that - taking up 100% of the CPU running the hell out of some stupid banner. Still no luck after all of that? Stick Linux on it and be done with stupid computer bullshit forever. |

When you say "it's not making loud noises", do you mean it's quieter now than normal? If so, the fan(s) may have died and you're overheating, although usually you'll get a blue screen of death or reboot...
