help me pick Im down to two laptops
I gave my wife my acer monster laptop, she is using it as a desktop replacement.I love it but its 64 bit and some of the scripts I use dont play well with 64 bit. The pro about this laptop is its very upgradable you can add a second hard drive and the cpu can be upgraded all the up to a quad core. If I bought another I would have to either vista 32 or win7 32 on it right off the bat. Acer has the 32 bit drivers for that computer.
http://microcenter.com/single_produc...uct_id=0308765 or this one http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...033&CatId=2511 this one has xp on it and if I ever want to go to 64 bit I can put 8 gig of ram on it. Of the two which would you pick? Also how big of fan of extended warranties are you? |
here's a bump for my sexy man

The core2duo is a 64 bit x86-64 processor.
Whichever one you choose, check www.newegg.com, they might have better pricing. |
Laptops with 17'+ screens for for under a thousand? What's the catch?

bump for more bumping but no advice

Acers are nice looking, sleek case, and 18.4 inch screen would be great, and cheaper too.
I read it's best to forget the extended warranty, the chance of something breaking after the normal warranty and within the extended warranty is pretty small. |
Depends on you really... what will you be using it for? If video encoding and you will be using a 64bit encoder that utilizes both processors then #2 but you should buy more memory...
HP covers parts and labor for a year... not sure if Acer does Labor too... Quality wise they are both pretty darn close but I'd side with HP... The first one has a faster bus speed so it will transfer data to and from memory faster. Of course the biggest bottle neck will be the hard drive... if you can find one that does 7800 or 10,000 rpms you will notice a huge difference! |
If you decide to upgrade memory or what not you can call them and they will have a tech install your item and they will sell the item they removed so you don't have to buy two sticks of memory only to be stuck with them.

I dont know about the memory thing V rocks Thanks. The laptop is only for email, some net stuff and photoshop now and then.Nothing thats cpu intensive. I do all my encoding on my editing desktop. And thanks everyone for their thoughts and thank you to all the people that think im sexy. lol
