Is this shed too tall?

Need advise, building a shed on my brother's property in town. We're CHEAP mother fuckers so if you build the shed under 120 sq feet area there is no permit and no increase in your property taxes. There are no regulations on height. The shed's for storage of crap, the taller it is, the more crap with shelving you can put in it.

it's an open rafter roof, you can stack another 3-4 feet of crap inside on top of what you see now!

technically he can't put in a second story without getting a permit, but he can have shelving up to the roof accessible by ladder!!

HorseShit 07-08-2009 05:35 PM

thread forwarded to your city officials for guidance

Rochard 07-08-2009 05:35 PM

Cheap bastards. Buy a bigger house if you want to store more shit.

421Fill 07-08-2009 06:45 PM

lol, the effort needed to put shit up that high and get it down can't seriously be worth a few hundred dollars in permit fees, can it? also, just how much value can a shed of all things add to a home to make the taxes be significantly higher and not worth doing?

What are you doing for a foundation? My only concern is that it would tip over too easily in a windy scenario.

SilentKnight 07-08-2009 06:52 PM

Have a lawn sale - sell shit off.

The question is

Hell, no it's not...
if you install an elevator

that 120sq feet rule might require you to also include the overhang on the roof (if any)
so i hope he took that into account, so if you built a 120 sq' box 10 x 12, then you have no more room for any overhang.

good idea though, be sure and anchor it so it wont blow over.

What's his shelving layout going to be?

SleazyDream 07-08-2009 08:07 PM

overhang doesn't count

"Yeah man, I build this shed, like 3 stories high dude.. and then there was this thunderstorm dude, and lightening hit the fucking shed and it burned to the ground! Can you fucking believe that dude? Made it taller than anything else on my block just to save myself like $150. Sigh"

If I built a shed, I'd have to go buy a bunch of crap to put in it. Negative ROI. Not a good thing.
