Rear Projection TV's....

I have a 65" rear-projection TV that needs a new bulb. I just had a new bulb put it in 2 years ago. Is 2 years about all you can expect from those bulbs???

mikesinner 07-08-2009 03:14 PM

You need to buy a flat screen.

roscoe 07-08-2009 03:15 PM

I would go a Flat Screen

Rochard 07-08-2009 03:15 PM

I had a rear projection TV for years - six years. The computer chip died in it before the bulbs did.

I have a new flat screen now. Much better.

DeanCapture 07-08-2009 03:17 PM

The TV is only 2 years old. I'm not gonna trash it for a flat-screen just yet :winkwink:

I just figured I'd get more then 2 years of service out of that bulb. I don't watch that much TV. Makes me think it might not be the blub after all. The repair guy will be here in the morning so I'll find out soon enough. Weird shit.....

Is it a DLP? Like flat screen big screen with the wedge back? Or old school console crap?

ProG 07-08-2009 03:18 PM

does it even get 1080?

the "repair guy" is probably giving you used bulbs, or something else is shorting them.

get an LCD.

I shall explain.

I bought the TV 2 years ago. 2 days after it was installed, the blub blew. The repair guy said that that model TV had bad bulbs when they were shipped overseas so he replaced it with a new one. So the TV is 2 years old and the bulb is as well.

you sould not have any problems with it yet, mine is over 6yrs old and had bulb once, still love it and I hate to move it because its heavy:winkwink:

Then yes, expect to replace that bulb every two years. The standard life of these bulbs is around 1000 - 2000 hours depending on the setting you are using.

I have a two DLP TV's with bulbs that's lasted 5 yrs in one and 6 in the other. They are both used constantly, most of the day.

abshard 07-08-2009 03:53 PM

I have a 73in mitsubishi dlp,had it for about 6 month then the screen went blank but could still hear sound, called them up and got a free bulb because it was less then a year old. Hope this bulb lasts longer =(

Sosa 07-08-2009 03:54 PM

I've had a 65" Mitsubishi that weights pry 500 lbs lol. Anyways it's like 7 years old now and still kicking. Never have replaced a bulb in it.

idtapdat 07-08-2009 03:58 PM

It seems like thats the going rate ive replaced the bulb in my sony 65" 2 times in 5 years..

evildick 07-08-2009 04:52 PM

This is a common problem with certain Toshiba DLP's. My brother is having the same problem.

There was talk of a redesigned bulb at one point that might get you a little more life out of it. My brother is thinking of ditching his for an LCD.

Search google, there is plenty of threads about it:

I have a Samsung 71 inch DLP and I am still on my original bulb after a few years.

JohnnyPearl 07-08-2009 06:17 PM

I have 2, 65" One is about 6 years old, never need to be replaced. But the newer one needed to be replaced after 2 years.

Sly 07-08-2009 06:18 PM

Mine blew after around two years as well but it really depends on the time used. I believe mine was 2500 hours or something like that.

DateDoc 07-08-2009 06:21 PM

I have a 52" DLP and the bulbs last about 2 years with moderate use. I get bulbs from http://lamps-dlp.com/ - quick shipping and good price.
