$8 MILLION dollars to produce a Porn Film?

According to a segment on CNBC right now someone spent $8m last year to produce ONE film

I find that figure very hard to believe

CIVMatt 07-08-2009 11:01 AM

Pirates2?

MaDalton 07-08-2009 11:02 AM

maybe rupies - but dollar?

the most expensive i could remember would be Pirates II - and even that is far away from 8 million dollar

Fletch XXX 07-08-2009 11:03 AM

whatever, you can film pron for under 8k let alon mil lol

lazycash 07-08-2009 11:50 AM

seeandsee 07-08-2009 11:55 AM

TheDoc 07-08-2009 11:55 AM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_%282005_film%29

"The producer stated in an interview that Pirates was the most expensive pornographic film made to date,[1] with a reported budget of over 1 million U.S. dollars"

An 8 million dollar porn movie.. Is Digital Playground taking it up another notch?

bbm 07-08-2009 12:24 PM

SleazyDream 07-08-2009 12:29 PM

CNBC is full of shit

Monique Niccole 07-08-2009 12:44 PM

For $8 million, a pornstar better leap out of the screen and have sex with whoever is watching

Darrah 07-08-2009 01:16 PM

That also includes marketing.

Hentaikid 07-08-2009 01:17 PM

Bullshit from CNBC, no doubt

DWB 07-08-2009 03:22 PM

It would be a waste of 8 million dollars. They would never see a positive return on that.

Redmanthatcould 07-08-2009 03:26 PM

The Girlfriend Experience starred Sasha Grey, but it wasn't an adult film...and even that was only $1.7M budget.

Robbie 07-08-2009 03:28 PM

Are y'all insinuating that a news network wouldn't have their facts straight and would report erroneously?

I just can't imagine that...

WiredGuy 07-08-2009 03:32 PM

They reported that and didn't say which studio it was? Did the studio make them sign a confidentiality agreement or something? This doesn't add up.

voa 07-08-2009 03:32 PM

That is too much money. If they include in this prize visual effects maybe is possible LOL :D

fris 07-08-2009 03:34 PM

exactly what i am thinking. so I assume who ever they interviewed who gave them that price tag was just trying to make themselves look like a big baller

it was a teaser for their up coming series on Porn

I think it airs next week

mozadek 07-08-2009 04:32 PM

That movie, with a budget of more than $1 million, had special effects (pirates materializing from the mist), and, yes, lots of sex. Two years later, the movie’s studio, Digital Playground, spent $8 million on a sequel — a remarkable sum in an industry where the average movie costs $25,000, according to the director of the two movies, Ali Joone.

SmokeyTheBear 07-08-2009 04:34 PM

they likely meant studios spent 8 million dollars combined to make porn videos :winkwink:

I don't believe everything I hear or read. This is one of those occasions.

pornguy 07-08-2009 05:40 PM

For some reason I can not see 8 mil on a porn

woj 07-08-2009 05:45 PM

they probably spent <100k, and told the media 8 million just to create ton of hype, it's not like anyone can actually verify those numbers... :thumbsup

nikki99 07-08-2009 07:55 PM

Brazilioan scat movies costs that, yeah, need to pay big money to the girls to eat poo

Brad Mitchell 07-08-2009 10:07 PM

Must have been Pirates 2. Actually rented it at Blockbuster last month... Melissa loves pirate movies and we saw the first one... (cough) They made their money back with cross-over to mainstream, for sure!

Brad

hypedough 07-08-2009 11:39 PM

I don't believe you (CNBC), you need more people.

I have a friend in Sao Paulo that shoots scat. I've never even asked him how much. What an odd thing to be into.

To get a return it has to cross to the mainstream, there would never be a return anywhere else.

Some in the industry would prefer their sex with a little more character development.
Interesting theory. Without character development why bother buying? It's that and the genuineness of the sex that makes movies different and worth buying.

Blingbaby 07-09-2009 02:28 AM

They are likely hoping to sell this to real customers like pay per view and hotel chains not the usual internet shmucks everyone on this board is shooting for. Looks like you've been out-pimped..

ps. Sleazy, this would be what diversifying and mainstreaming would mean if you produce porn!

Do you know what they pay for those rights? Doubt if they will make a return on those markets.

Davy 07-09-2009 04:07 AM

Pirates + Pirates2 + Marketing?

StaceyJo 07-09-2009 06:05 AM

Good to know. :)
