members area help needed
 

I'm working on my members area, and was wondering if on my members area I should have just full length vids or full length vids and clips of the same vid. Maybe make the clips downloadable and the full length vids embeded (though I don't know how to do that)?

it's a tough call, but these days you want to give your surfers most options possible. if i can give you a suggestion, make sure that you have the clips in windows and mac formats since mac users want to download .mov videos - and your best friend is ffmpeg for doing that.

i would say go for the full length videos in high resolution and if you want to give also small videos, go for them in low resolution.

all in all for every video it will take 10x the hdd space if you want to have all options covered but that's what happens today if you want to be sure that you cover all thinkable options.

Clips and full length work for us.

Yup whenever I'm in surfer mode and go into members areas I want to sample the videos. Some of todays videos are 300MB and up. I prefer to download a single clip from each of the sets then download the full length of the one(s) I like the best. I always hate downloading a 300mb video only to find out that is the only boring video the girl has

- Full video in wmv/mpg/avi
- Full video split into 2 minute sections in wmv/flash

- Small full version of video
- Full video (small version) split into 2 minute sections in wmv/flash

Like SBJ, when I go into a members area I want a quick peak at the video, rather then downloading a 300MB movie in total.

If you don't want to offer clips, be sure that you have a stream of the video that the user can skip around in. This is another way they can preview the video to be sure they actually do want to download it.

We have:

- Full length WMV in 2 resolutions
- Full length streaming flash
- 1 minute MPG and MP4 clips. MPG clips also stream.

The more options the better.
