BAD advise everyone THINKS is good

Here's some BAD advise that all the morons out there THINK is good advise

1. Diversify.
2. Go Mainstream.
3. Follow what others say is right against what you think and know yourself.

those 3 mistakes cost me millions.

You can't succeed unless you fail first, it's rare to have someone find success the first or even the 10th time out. Although, in any business you'll find someone who gets lucky and succeeds the first time. Remember that MySpace layout chick who made like 80k/month at 17?

Besides, isn't it happiness that matters? Mo' money, mo' problems is so true. I was a happier person with less money. Go figure? The more I focus on things other than making money, the happier I am!

I got arrested a couple weeks ago for fighting in a bar, got thrown in the drunk tank with the network admin(TOP guy, so he said) of a major Canadian bank. Guy had red wine all over him. His fiance threw it in his face at some expensive bar in Yaletown after he told her that she has to cut back on spending his money or they can't marry.

Imagine that, top of your game, the most money you've ever made in life, top of the chain at work. Then you meet a woman you love, get engaged, and then she ends up ordering $70 glasses of red wine at your dinner that you intended to tell her to stop spending 3k a week. The guy told me he's living paycheque to paycheque AND she's draining his savings. She doesn't work. Of course, could all be bull, but the guy seemed to know his computers. Long story short, girlfriend threw the wine at him and left, he paid the bill, left, and started SCREAMING in rage in the middle of the street. He didn't think he would be arrested so fast. He dumped his ex girlfriend a year prior and regrets it every minute. Poor guy was crying for hours in the drunk tank, and pleaded with the other guys in there to never dump a good girl for a whore.

Fuck that was a fun night!

Again, not exactly what is meant when told to try mainstream. That would be brick and mortar.

"Mainstream" would mean working online, but diversify into something outside of adult.

There is definitely money to be made there.

Here is some great advice. Stop making stupid threads and attempting to draw attention.

Now here is a piece of wisdom. Nobody runs your business but yourself. So all decisions that lead to failure can be blamed on you. Scapegoats are the easy way out for everyone. That is why they are failures.

SGS 07-08-2009 01:36 AM

1. Diversify is good but only if you have *very* good people working for you.

Next time hit me up.

I would have rented the offices first and then opened the bar and gave all tenants a
drink card for two free drinks everyday after 5pm and 4 free drinks on friday and saturday
after 10pm. 20% discount on all drinks other times.

The cost of their drinks comes out of their rent and because they are frugal they tell
everybody to meet them there after work.
They couldn't resist using their keys to go back up to the office to fuck!
No hotel bills or money trail to follow.

Company lunches/meetings/parties would be $2 drinks and catered food.
First two lunches free for new tenants. Get them down in groups and get them hooked!

The tenants would have built your bar.

That's what I would have done on day one.....and then I would have started
with the real money makers.

You would not have lost any money with me.

My apologies. I wasn't paying attention to what I was typing so I didn't reread and correct what I wrote. But I will paraphrase...

Those who can't, teach

Those who don't succeed are bountiful with advice that if they took, would make them masters of their domain.

What are you the master of? It apparently is many things. But what is your focus of expertise?

Why you say go mainstream with your project on a board that is mostly online based mainstream in my eyes is still online but just not adult and that is what i do mostly right now and it IS very profitable i would suggest you use go offline next time better for understanding purposes :winkwink:

Btw you used someone else to run the project would you also give a total stranger 20k to start up a business for you?

and about following if you think multimillion dollar marketing studies lie well go ahead think like that but i would listen and learn from those studies they are right if the standards that those study`s have been based on compete with your project.

Anyways 1 thing i hope you learned is: Take lots of prestudy and see what succeeding others are doing and how they do it and than copy the good things they do and adjust and maintain the bad parts that they do.

And next time you want to start a business don`t jump right into it with your eyes closed from the moment you have the money to buy and hope for the best that is just begging to let it fail.

1) It's ADVICE. If you can't spell it, perhaps you shouldn't give it. :winkwink:

2) You are a fool if you do not diversify at least a little. You should diversify your investments, your currencies and your businesses. Just don't spread yourself too thin and know what it is you are getting into. Putting all your eggs into one basket is begging for trouble. It is also asking for trouble if you don't really know the business you are getting into. If you do your due diligence, you will be fine.

I agree with the rest of what you said. If you don't know mainstream (or any business), why get in it? And why or why would anyone listen to others? Recipe for disaster. :2 cents:

You didn't understand what people meant:
1. Diversify - You own a TGP so you opened a bar
What it means in business: A Software Company starts a Phone company with their own software.
2. Go Mainstream: You own a TGP so you buy a bar
What it means in business: Kink.com hires a PR person to get the word out an gets talked about on Oprah.

3. Follow what others say is right against what you think and know yourself. - You own a TGP and you opened a bar.
What it means in business- Microsoft hires the COO from Electronic Arts and starts Xbox.

Your a guy that got lucky and started a TGP. Good luck.

Rock It 07-08-2009 07:15 PM

And I dont mean that in a sarcastic way.
I just mean that you own TGP and can see opportunities in spades in your speciality so you should
1. Diversify in your specialty
2. maintstream- in your specialty
3. Take advice- From someone that has more knowledge then you in your new venture!

Good Luck! We have all failed, its those that get back up and try again that succeed!

Sometimes, yes. But not always.

GM had a lot of highly-paid "specialists" working on the line.

Those specialists never diversified - and now they're fucked because they ain't qualified to do much of anything else.
