Burning .avi files problems

I just tried to clean up my harddisk, trying to backup/burn some movies onto CD-R.

Thing is, I have these .avi files, the burnprocess was completed succesfully, yet I see zero files on the CD. In one drive it says the disk is empty, on the other cdrom drive it says I have to insert a disk. In Nero it says I have but 7mb free on that cd-r. So, there must be something on there, yet I see nothing.

When I burn these avi or mpg files onto a new disk, I just use 'burn data' in Nero, I assume that is just fine, is it not?

Please advise.

you wanna play them on your PC or dvd?

Naughty 12-02-2002 10:04 AM

That doesn't really matter, I have a DVD on my pc as well;)

I did see the option to make it suitable for DVD though. Does that work?

That does indeed look helpfull, but I am not trying to convert anything, just make backups to my disks.

Any simple answers?

What did you use to burn it? Just use something like Nero and create a new data cd. The avi file should be there when you view it.

exactly

Well, that is what I did, as I posted above. It is not showing the data though. Maybe some weird thing went wrong, the file is 699 Mb, the disk 700mb.

Although the process was completed succesfully, I have my doubts.

Use CD-RW to test. You will save disks.

You should not have problems copying an avi to a cd with Nero as a data cd.

Never had this type of problem, so can't help more

Hey Naughty, i think you "overburned" your cds.
I had the same problems in the past. Thing is at the end of the burning process, Nero burns additional data which will be the directory of all your files. Depending on how much you burn, the addiontional data will be more or less, but Nero doesn't document it as "burn size prognose" too well.

If you keep your cd size to like 695mb, you won't have that problem anymore. I'm almost sure of it, since i had the same "pleasure" with overburned cds as well ;)

Good luck mate!
