Just saw "Public Enemy" with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale
 

It was long. A little too long and drawn out. It's the same way I felt about pretty much all of Michael Mann's movies dating back to and with the exception of "Heat". I'm pretty impatient when it comes to watching stories unfold on the big screen.

The movie is shot entirely in HD. On a 150k Sony camera from what I have gathered but some of the scenes look like it could have come off of my Canon HG10. But the hand held movements add to the great action scenes.

Both Bale and Depp were great in this movie. It's basically a Depp vs Bale movie. I can see why the studio didn't push promoting Bale since most people are probably suffering Bale overload...especially after "Terminator Salvation" bombed. Bale has been cut from most of the promos for this movie but his screen time is right up there with Depp's.

This will definitely be a DVD buy for me. I feel like in this case the big screen didn't do it justice. I think I'll like it much more from the comfort and with the comforts of my own home.

If I had to give it a rating (with The Godfather 2 being a 10 and Heat being an 8) it would be a 6/10.

Oh and though Michael Mann is the King of shootouts on screen they are few and far between in this movie. The ones that are there are great...but I felt like there should have been more (including scenes leading up to) figuring it was a movie about history's greatest bank robber.

Bale is still using his Batman voice. :1orglaugh

This is one I'm going to have to see.

i think he almost evolved himself into a pirate.
