you ate something wrong today?

sorry, i think it's sad when a great actor passes away, no matter if he's 20 or 97. even if he has retired a long time ago. that's my personal opinion, you do not need to share it if you don't want to.

i personally just don't get this thing where people say "that's sad" and not "wow, he had a great run, good for him!!" and celebrate how they lived. there is nothing to be sad about. he lived a long time. he had a good life and now he's fertilizer.

we're all going to die. i know that. i accept that. i understand that anything can happen at any time and that's how the universe works. i know i can get a really horrible phone call at any second about unimaginable tragedy and have and i know its not about me or anyone else.. its just how the universe works.

my personal view, is that its silly to get emotional about it or make it something it isn't. death can just as much be about the celebration of how someone lived or the fact that they were fortunate enough to live at all as it can be about "being sad".

further, it makes light of the fact that others are dying every single day... being murdered, raped and killed and somehow that becomes less sad, since they didn't star in a well known movie 50 years ago or a crappy tv series.

i respect your opinions. i'm just adding another perspective to the discussion :)

the problem is that i don't know all the other people that also died. if i knew them i might feel different about them. it also wasn't a sad day for me when Michael Jackson died or that Oxiclean guy - because both don't matter to me.

But in this case I had watched Streets of San Francisco through half my childhood and therefore his life and work mean more to me than just some regular dude.

maybe that clarifies my perspective ;)

gmr324 07-01-2009 02:48 PM

RIP Karl...always a big fan of "Streets of San Fran"

undersoul 07-01-2009 03:12 PM

the oxi clean guy actually has an office close to ours.

the shitty thing about his death was that he just crash landed a plane at the tampa airport like 2-3 days ago.

Yeah I know. A 97 year old dies and I'm so shocked. I mean he had so much left to live for.

niche25 07-01-2009 06:51 PM

I'm over this "people dying" thing... it's so last week.

Furious_Male 07-01-2009 06:53 PM

I can only wish I would make it to 97 and still be functional. He had a hell of a run.

DaddyHalbucks 07-01-2009 07:59 PM

RIP.

He was a classic.

brassmonkey 07-01-2009 08:13 PM

RIP, he was a good actor ... :(

Mutt 07-05-2009 03:28 AM

what the hell, i had no idea Karl Malden would be 97, 87 maybe but really surprised he was that old.

another 1970's legend down. the American Express commercials made him even more famous than Streets of San Francisco.

Marshal 07-05-2009 08:23 AM

karl malden was really a memorable person... rip!

xbizdon 07-05-2009 06:10 PM

Surprised to see that Amex only went for the 4"x7" L.A. Times obituary ad. If Amex still had any class -- and I'm not sure they really do anymore -- they should have gone for the full-pager. After all, Karl was like on every other ad on TV during the day.
