I need a good movie to watch.. anyone?

Yeah,

so I've picked up some diamonds from GFY that I would have probably never checked out.. trying to continue the trend.

It would be nice to get some suggestions that aren't too commercial. Some overlooked, underrated, or obscure titles would be ideal. I'm a big fan of epics, period pieces, or foreign films.. even if they are a little bit older. I really like UK films too, most are put together well.

Here are a few movie suggestions that fit the bill:

1. Arizona Dream - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106307/

2. Your Friends & Neighbors - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119517/

3. Harry, He's Here To Help - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0216800/

4. Ned Kelly - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0277941/

5. The Life and Death of Peter Sellers - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0352520/

Thanks again.

I really enjoyed this movie http://www.somers-town.com/ (UK) and also http://www.lettherightoneinmovie.com/ (Swedish)

EDIT: Another one I enjoyed a lot was Amelie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/ (French) and last but not least The Fall http://www.thefallthemovie.com/

Mega-Shark vs. Giant Octopus (read the review). :thumbsup

Check out Gummo, it is easily one of the best movies of all time.

Both great movies, especially let the right one in.

St0ned,

Gummo was some BIZARRE fucking shit.

I had always wondered when I saw "Belly" what movie DMX was watching when the kids were shooting eachother talking about dead rabits.. then I saw Gummo, it was for free on sundance on demand. Bizarre.

Chloe Sevigny had some nice tits though.. Did you see her suck cock in that movie Brown Bunny? Crazy. Real cock sucking in a movie.

psili 06-27-2009 07:51 PM

Fuck... I needed a thread like this, so thanks.
I can't think of anything special, but here's some that come to mind in my random post for random movies. However, now I look over them, I dunno if you'll dig on any, but who knows.

Factotum
"This drama centers on Hank Chinaski, the fictional alter-ego of "Factotum" author Charles Bukowski, who wanders around Los Angeles...."
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417658/

Permanent Midnight
"Comedy writer Jerry Stahl (Ben Stiller), whose $6000-a-week heroin habit had him taking his infant daughter..."
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120788/

Wassup Rockers
"Instead of adhering to the norms of their South Central neighborhood, a group of skater boys opt to bus into Hollywood and Beverly Hills..."
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413466/

LOL yeah I was wondering if anyone from here would have seen Gummo. By far the most bizarre movie I have ever seen. Never heard of the movie Brown Bunny but that sounds crazy, I will have to pull it up on imdb.

I don't know, I'm pretty unsure about any Nicholas Cage movies as of late. Last thing he was any good in was Sonny - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0305973/.

Camille - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462219/, was good and bizarre. Had James Franco in it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors and I didn't know that movie existed. Looks like I will be watching this movie tonight. :thumbsup

I love, love, love Amelie. Others that are wonderful:

Before Sunrise
Monsoon Wedding
Once
Afterlife (Japanese with subtitles)

I don't understand why everyone always wants "obscure titles" or whatever? Haha give me a good blockbuster that i'll enjoy anyday..

Going to watch the cult classic "Office Space" then later one of my newest Blue rays either "Wanted" or "Taken" (both great movies):thumbsup and if I'm still up I'll watch the best damn "unrated" movie I've ever seen "Sex Drive - unrated" on blue ray

" Breakin' "

If you are under 30 then you might want to check this movie out.
I would think that most people under 30 that like hip-hop and dancing didn't get
to see how this genre/life style/culture came to prominence.

This movie defined an era in the evolution of music and dance that led to the
explosion of hip-hop today. When I say defined, I mean the movie showed
where this was going and where it came from and it influenced what we hear today.

The wiki on the movie alone is worth a read :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakin'

You can watch this movie as an academic of dance or you can just chill to
it and feel the grove.

Some things in the movie will probably come off as "corny" to younger viewers
but just realize that the movie was made in 1984.

It's awesome in my opinion : "Breakin' "

yup I'm a old fucker cause I remember that movie very well haha.. In the 80's I was a huge Cristian Slater fan and loved moves like Gleaming the cube, Heathers, Pump up the volume and many others

but ya i liked that movie.. the second one sucked though :1orglaugh

psili 06-27-2009 09:23 PM

Come on kids. Stop polluting the thread with shitty movies.

I doubt original poster wants these shitty 80's flicks. Cuz they are shitty. Yea, fun when one's 9 years old, but they suck, unless one's huffing paint or reliving the shitty 80's.

But hey, if one's going to rent "Breakin'", why not also rent "The Last Dragon" with Bruce Lee Roy and Sho 'Nuff. Dumb as fuck, but amusing movie to zone out to.
