It seems like these days all we see is news about people losing their rights. Today the Supreme Court made a ruling that reminded the country that the Constitution does still exist.
In case you haven't been following it there was a case from about 6 years ago where a girl (then age 13) was accused of giving another girl in school an couple of Advil. The school caught one girl with the Advil and asked where she got it. She gave the name of this other girl. The school has a zero tolerance policy for drugs so you can't even have aspirin on campus. They pull the accused out of class and ask her if she gave the other girl the Advil. She denied so they searched her jacket, backpack and pants pockets. When they found nothing the vice principle wasn't happy. He instructed his assistant and the school nurse (both women) to take the girl into another room and strip search her. The girl asked for her parents and was denied. She was told if she didn't go through with the strip search she would be expelled. Of course the strip search turns up nothing. The only evidence they ever had against the girl was another girl who was trying to get out of trouble said her name.
She sued and for 6 years it has bounced around the courts. Today the supreme court ruled 8-1 that the search was illegal and that schools can't just arbitrarily strip search students.

I was glad to see that result. If it were my daughter I would have done the same as this girl's parents did.
