Intelligence or persistence equals success?

To those making over 20k a month. What do you think helped you the most towards success.

1. You are just a prick that's a cut above the rest in intelligence.

or

2. You are just a persistent bastard who wouldn't take failure for an answer.

I say it's number 2. Let's hear it.

sextoyking 12-01-2002 02:14 AM

Shaggy,

good question.

Mostly #2, lots of hard work, networking, etc. of course starting in 1994 on usenet didn't hurt either.

there have been times that #1 came in also. I hate the asshole look though :))

happy holidays

all the crucial decisions. number 1.

everything else. number 2.

number 1 always guides number 2 in my experience.

EscortBiz 12-01-2002 02:20 AM

1 with out the other is worthless

sextoyking 12-01-2002 02:21 AM

Touche Quiet.

well in the old days, #1 did come in to play quite a bit more. But after all these years, I like less piss, and more fun :)

Yeppers,

in any business, just put your time in, lots of hard work, you will make it usually.

They say most sucessfull business ppl do fail at different ventures in there life.

That is really true, in the 90's we had computer stores, etc. But they never did so well, paid the bills, but not much else.

But when our bbs grew to 60 lines (adult) in 1993, and then we got very big into retail / wholesale adult cdroms, wow, porn was much more fun, great profit margins, easier to work with:)

it's all about how you go about your business ways. if you always try and be a straight shooter, honest as possible, network as good as you can, you will do ok..

Isn't that an old quote? :2 cents:

i think the case may differ with the internet though. Back in the early days things were simple. You had a store, you advertised and people would buy things.

On the internet you have to worry about a lot more technical things. If someone is using some script to fuck you, if your being hotlinked, etc, etc, etc.

Plus the difference between different sources of traffic. The list goes on and on.

I find it hard to beleive that anyone has had true success without their fair share of failures. I for one, have failed at things more times than I can count. But I am finally reaching the point where I feel successful.

It makes me wonder what kind of breed will make it in this biz.

like i've said many times: i learned html in university. started with avs in 96. moved to paysites in 97. consistently grew from that time on, until present.

i'm retiring Oct 1st of next year. weeee.

sextoyking 12-01-2002 02:46 AM

Shaggy,

you sound like you evaluate things good, your head is probably on straight enough, you will make it.

There is not many sucessful biz ppl that have not failed in someway 1 or more times in there life.

I mean a failure could be coming out with a new project / affiliate program, software, etc and it just not making it like they thought it would.

Even most of the top 20 ppl in the adult net have gone through this, I do biz with most of these ppl, and I know how it goes.

You just have to take the failure, or mistake, learn from it, and drive on..

Business is easy if you set your mindset right;))

Tens of thousands of idiots who never could have started their own business have been able to do so because of the internet. To say that an internet store is more complicated than a "real" one is naive.

Sambuka 12-01-2002 02:59 AM

If you started in 96 then you'd have to be a brain dead loser not to be wealthly by now. There was no losing back then it was just pure profit, free traffic. people didn't know that traffic = money. I mean my first day opening my site I got sent 80 k a day every day from one of the major sites of that time. that was 97. Just wish I didn't have a 2 year break from 99-02. But burnout brings new clarity. :)
