Small studio, killer product - in need of an online strategy...

Good morning, GFY newbie here.

Our studio has recently completed production on a high quality, niche? gonzo title. The DVD distributors we?ve met with in the valley think we?re sitting on a best seller, but I still need to get my head around an online strategy.

Can anyone offer advice on what the best business model is currently, for selling digital delivery of 1 single niche? DVD?

Is Windows DRM a recommended solution? Members area delivery method/CCBill? VOD partners? License this content elsewhere?

So far I have a domain, a shared hosting account (maybe I need dedicated?), and a rough photoshop mockup of the webpage. Our 3 minute, 32mb flash trailer is fresh, original, and WILL convert to sales, but I?m not sure what considerations to have regarding traffic & bandwith.

If coding or special back end is required I'll hire someone, but need to get my head around what the big picture strategy entails first.

Any advice from the experts here is very much appreciated. Again, just selling a single movie (for now). Thanks!

Welcome and I hope you will get here answer for your question ;)

FOr just one, I would license it to Big Programs. take the money and make another one.

matt blade 06-26-2009 02:36 PM

Hey Pornguy,

Is Big Programs a studio, or do you mean affiliate networks?

ez12 06-27-2009 06:01 AM

If it is just one DVD you need to sell it to correct affiliate sponsor. It makes no sense in building an affiliate program for just one DVD.

Just my 2cts

ez,

The movie cost $15k, so I don't think selling it outright could turn much of a profit.

Unless you mean licensing to a "correct" sponsor...who would that be?

Hey Matt, best of luck with the new venture :thumbsup

You could license it to any tube site which also has a VOD section. They could put short scenes of the dvd on the tube part and then link to the full video in the VOD section.

Welcome to GFY dude :)

welcome to gfy

Thanks for the warm welcome...I was bracing for alot more hostility with respect to the name of this forum.

sysk, can you recommend specific tube sites for doing business that way?

Looking around, it seems the content providers here have lots of content, and promote or are part of an affiliate program, but I haven't found any info for a small studio like myself trying to sell individual movies.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Pointing

Talk with Kurtis from www.xtube.com, he's a smart cookie.:upsidedow

That's a shitload of money to spend on a flick.

hitahomer 07-07-2009 09:06 PM

Can we see the DVD cover at least?

hitahomer 07-07-2009 09:10 PM

I will settle for a nipple.

pornguy 07-08-2009 08:56 AM

Matt. You will have to shop it around and sell it non exclusive if you can. Perhaps doing them as feeds more than anything would work.

peeperpimp 07-08-2009 09:37 AM

Non Exclusive resell... rinse n repeat.

matt blade 07-09-2009 02:07 AM

Thanks for the non exclusive re-sell tip. What websites buy movies that way that you know of? Please PM me if it's bad form to list them publicly. I can provide more detail and a trailer that way as well.

pornguy, can you explain what you mean by doing them as feeds?

hitorhomer I will call kurtis and mention you sent me ;) thanks.
