That was awesome.

CunningStunt 06-21-2009 10:45 PM

That was supposed to be a joke that he's Michael Schumacher. The Stig is a short ass, there's no way it is actually Schumacher. Publicity stunt. A cunning one at that.

That was pretty big surprise for everyone else there

I reckon it was probably more to do with the fact that Schumacher was probably the only driver that Ferrari would trust to throw the FXX around the Top Gear track :)

Exactly.. I dont belive that they had Schumacher as the stig theese last few years. It must have been just a Ferrari/Fiat PR stunt.. He talked an awful lot about Fiats for some reason:)

from wikipedia: "The White Stig was 'revealed' to be former Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher in the first episode of the thirteenth series, first broadcast on 21 June 2009. However at the end of the show this was implied to be an elaborate joke. Schumacher is also credited as the Special Guest of the episode, separately to 'The Stig'."

The stig isnt one person, they use pretty much whoever is available. Obviously nobody (at least i hope) believes Michael Schumacher has been working as the stig for all these years.

The first Stig was Perry McCarthy but he spoke to the press about it.

Yes exactly, I think it works that way as well. Whenever there's a special car around the track, it's most likely a factory test driver.

The funniest thing is that apparently Reuters news bureau sent the "news" out to all their subscribers without getting the joke, and as a result it was big news on most online newspapers during the evening - at least here in Denmark.

Apparently they didn't watch the last few minutes of the show where they busted the joke.

Sarah_Jayne 06-22-2009 07:48 AM

The latest Stig is more the case.

Same in Australia, I noticed it mentioned in a couple of prominent papers today. No hints that it was a joke.
