They won't. They might however ban wordpress users that are trading links / selling links and other crap they specifically tell you pisses them off.

I'm sure they are always eager to penalize splogs that use wordpress though, or other "feedwordpress" plugins and other rss fed machine generated content.... would never be surprised to see that kind of stuff penalized or banned or anything that looks like those kinds of sites

google has a lot more work to do in banning/penalizing, do some lyric searches and see all the crappy scraper machine fed sites that are ranking.... do some famous celebrity model name searches and see all the crappy scraper machine fed sites that are ranking... that should be on google's agenda to zap out of the search results

I think it is cool that wordpress has enough of a following to make a base install untouchable. Just talking scripts here, it is a good solid platform.

In relation to the ST thing also, wordpress has for a long time worked to make their script be a great content and website builder, that is textual content rich. And worked towards it being welcomed in the engines.

ST's work isn't so much built to make beautiful, content rich sites, but to generate traffic and make sales.

they won't ban WP. too big of a platform and blogging engine to blog. Surpasses blogger on so many fronts. Ban all the BS blogs about nothing and then thats a start.

If Google banned Wordpress then there would be a lot less worthless junk clogging up the SERPs and Goggle would be a better search engine. That does not mean it will happen though.

WordPress really does need to be penalized. It has pretty much become the 2009 equivalent of FrontPage 1999. It is the tool of choice for the non-developer types. They are even using it as a template system for sites that aren't even blogs.

So yeah, I say WordPress sites shouldn't be on the first 5 pages unless they have a certain PR.
