Michelangelo's first painting, at age 12.

Compare and contrast with your kid's work hanging on your fridge.

It looks like some real hardcore stuff! I can bet they were smoking a lot at that time.

Sukiho 06-21-2009 04:07 AM

a lot of art is faked, people get it wrong, whats the evidence? I dont believe that one is genuine but if I owed it I sure would

Sid70 06-21-2009 04:13 AM

voa 06-21-2009 05:10 AM

"Michelangelo’s First Painting.
This picture, which many believe to be Michelangelo’s first, is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art."

I belive it is genuine. I thinks it is called "Torment of saint Anthonie" or something like that. Or some saint anyway... I saw it on Discovery so I might be missinformed :)

I know a girl who is a child prodigy artist. She started painting at like age 5.

woj 06-21-2009 09:18 AM

That's some amazing work for a 12 year old :thumbsup

bloggerz 06-21-2009 09:42 AM

At this age of time you only lived to 25 years old so he was well into his prime :thumbsup

Matt 26z 06-21-2009 09:45 AM

If an artist can still be a household name 500 years later, then he probably was doing some amazing stuff very early in his life.

yes, they think its genuine, or someone does, but its just a guess as far as I know and the experts have been fooled many times before, you get a certain fame by discovering something like this and the guy that has made the claim sure isnt going to change his mind

Have you guys heard of Alexandra Nechita ? She started doing pen and ink at 2. Watercolors at 5 and oil at 7.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Nechita

First found an oil painting of her's from when she was 10 in a gallery north of Santa Barbara -- $60k. Should have bought it. A couple of years later than same painting was fetching more than $500k

I had several of her limited edition prints -- still $5k-$10K each - until the wife took them in the divorce.

Shes 23 now and smoking hot --

Walter Gropius 06-21-2009 11:28 AM

I like the painting... but I prefer the gif of Jessica Alba sucking some dude's finger :)

psili 06-21-2009 11:36 AM

Are there works of Michelangelo's before this, even if it was done in pencil?

Just curious, because I'm going to have to call bullshit the first ever paintbrush, with the handy colors already laid out on pallet, and a canvas in front of him, he busted out that painting. Are you fucking kidding me? Does a child pianist prodigy just walk up to a piano for the first time of ever seeing one, and start busting out Mozart without hitting a couple of keys first to see what a piano does?

Maybe that's how it happens. Good for him then.

OTerror 06-21-2009 11:44 AM

Thats talent

bbm 06-21-2009 12:02 PM

nice :) :)

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have a piece of shit painting by some dead artist that was valued in the millions. The OP painting does nothing for me, and I still have doubts it was Michelangelo's first ever attempt. Then again, I wouldn't cry if I had it and a bunch of people said it was worth millions.

Sukiho 06-21-2009 12:54 PM

its a copy of someone elses painting, so thats possible, a 12 year old could do that I guess

HomerSimpson 06-21-2009 04:48 PM

I really doubt any 12yo kid can draw such thing...
IMHO it's fake or he didn't painted that at age of 12...

I drew demons as a kid. What's the big deal?

if a twelve year old painted that today he'd be in therapy...

I agree, but.

Mozart was a prodigy. He figured out the paino rather quickly. Not sure, but I believe he wrote multiple symponies by age 12.

like I said, not sure.

You've all gotta realize, the age of 12, wasn't as young back then as it is today... The average age of death for people back then was around 30-35 so being 12, really didn't make you very young.

I'm just calling BS on it being his first painting. I'm not doubting him being gifted, but to think he picked up a brush and painted that as his first attempt... well, it just seems a bit far fetched. And I was grumpy writing the post you're replying to, so apologies on my attitude.

It's alright, I don't honestly think it's his FIRST EVER, painting, but I think it's his FIRST EVER RELEASE, you know.. after he figured out how to paint.

WebairGerard 06-21-2009 08:20 PM

yes the work is amazing and what is equally amazing is his ability to get those thoughts/emotions in his creations at such a young age. There is a reason he is one of the greatest artists ever.

Fridge worthy for sure! lol

NO shit, a pretty tormented being for sure. At 12, that sort of nightmare will make you pee the bed:Oh crap

Sukiho 06-22-2009 04:13 AM

most people here seem to be under the impression that he came up with that composition as a 12 year old, nobody is claiming that, they are saying he copied that painting when he was 12, thats why it doesnt look like a michealangelo painting and thats why its possible a 12 year old did it

pornguy 06-22-2009 05:14 AM

Why is that so hard to believe. Beethoven composed his first symphony at like age 4.

gmr324 06-22-2009 05:56 AM

Yea, sounds like 15 was a middle age person in that time...haunting painting nonetheless

Sarah_Jayne 06-22-2009 07:47 AM

Today he would be in therapy.
