If an artist can still be a household name 500 years later, then he probably was doing some amazing stuff very early in his life.

yes, they think its genuine, or someone does, but its just a guess as far as I know and the experts have been fooled many times before, you get a certain fame by discovering something like this and the guy that has made the claim sure isnt going to change his mind

First found an oil painting of her's from when she was 10 in a gallery north of Santa Barbara -- $60k. Should have bought it. A couple of years later than same painting was fetching more than $500k

I had several of her limited edition prints -- still $5k-$10K each - until the wife took them in the divorce.

Shes 23 now and smoking hot --

Just curious, because I'm going to have to call bullshit the first ever paintbrush, with the handy colors already laid out on pallet, and a canvas in front of him, he busted out that painting. Are you fucking kidding me? Does a child pianist prodigy just walk up to a piano for the first time of ever seeing one, and start busting out Mozart without hitting a couple of keys first to see what a piano does?

Maybe that's how it happens. Good for him then.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have a piece of shit painting by some dead artist that was valued in the millions. The OP painting does nothing for me, and I still have doubts it was Michelangelo's first ever attempt. Then again, I wouldn't cry if I had it and a bunch of people said it was worth millions.

Mozart was a prodigy. He figured out the paino rather quickly. Not sure, but I believe he wrote multiple symponies by age 12.

You've all gotta realize, the age of 12, wasn't as young back then as it is today... The average age of death for people back then was around 30-35 so being 12, really didn't make you very young.

I'm just calling BS on it being his first painting. I'm not doubting him being gifted, but to think he picked up a brush and painted that as his first attempt... well, it just seems a bit far fetched. And I was grumpy writing the post you're replying to, so apologies on my attitude.

It's alright, I don't honestly think it's his FIRST EVER, painting, but I think it's his FIRST EVER RELEASE, you know.. after he figured out how to paint.

yes the work is amazing and what is equally amazing is his ability to get those thoughts/emotions in his creations at such a young age. There is a reason he is one of the greatest artists ever.

most people here seem to be under the impression that he came up with that composition as a 12 year old, nobody is claiming that, they are saying he copied that painting when he was 12, thats why it doesnt look like a michealangelo painting and thats why its possible a 12 year old did it
