Giving windows 7 a try

Well I uploaded windows 7 to give a try, I was getting sick of vista and so far so good, everything is actually working better, a few things are different. But all in all, I like it, after a few days of working o my laptop, I should have a better idea, but I have seen that my laptop is running faster with a smaller load on the processor

Does it have any of that aeroglass shit? Will it run on 1G RAM?

I have 2 gig of ram, so I don't know, but I really haven't found anything I don't like. Still getting use to IE8, thats a little different

I've only had issues with it so far trying to install a video card and Sims 3, but the speed is great if you have something compatible with it.

Vista sucks major ass. Made me go back to Mac.

Still can't figure out how to view by file type in Vista.

Been running it on a dual core Acer laptop with 1 GB of RAM.

Runs like a charm - Much faster than Windows Vista that the laptop came with.

I basically turned off all the fancy shit, and changed the display to Windows Classic - click on the "View/Details" option and voila, list by type, even has the extension on the filename.

That's good to hear. My PC machine shipped with 1 GB last year, "it was a mistake" they said, but by then I was going through withdrawal and I had to plug in NOW. So I was forced to making VISTA 1G-friendly and swift, and now it works fine. But if beta reports are sweet on 7...

Was it a free rollover or upgrade or whatever they're calling this?

:D

Nope!

I have tried google, went to the MS site somehow I end up in bullshit pages that have nothing to do with actually downloading.

Ehhh I don't know....

I just built a new 920 rig overclocked to 4.2ghz to add to my 3d renderfarm. I decided to give the win7 RC a chance. Made a DVD and installed. Everything looked great, found the network just fine...I liked it.

BUT, 3d rendering on my 4.2ghz, was 40% slower than my 3.8ghz system with Vista.

WTF? I did some tests and found that win7 was just about half the speed of Vista, at least when it comes to 3d. I'd think you probably wouldn't notice any performance differences with normal everyday stuff, like web browsing and such -- but really beat it up with some high end 3d work, and its exposed big time. I'd wait until they release the real deal, and then wait even more until they release a service pack.

Anyway, its basically Vista, but slower.

If anyone requests, I'll set the clock speed the same on my Vista and Seven rigs, and do a BlackBox system test and post the results in this thread.

candyflip 06-19-2009 08:09 AM

I have it running on a tiny little Dell Netbook and it really runs quite nicely.

That sounds like something that would be interesting to see
I don't do anything thats that much of a resource hog, but everyday webmaster stuff, photoshop, dreamweaver or just watching some video, so far, I see a big difference in performance

michael.kickass 06-19-2009 10:04 AM

I've been using it on a machine and so far it has worked great, no problems at ALL!... and that's a lot to say, especially when it comes to MS software... :)
