Cash for Clunkers passed - where do I get a clunker on the cheap?

The 'clunkers for cash' bill was passed. where can I get a 1983 van that gets 8mpg for $200? Can the $4,500 rebate work for used cars to or would I have to buy a new one?

Those are some details from a couple months ago. The bill is different now.

It would almost have to be for used cars because you cannot buy a new car for $4500. And if you can afford to buy a new car, why are we giving you $4500 to put towards that?

The whole bill seems bizarre to me.

Few years back I sold a 1990 Ford Escort to the state of California for a $1000. It couldn't pass smog so they bought it off me to get it off the road. Not sure if they are still doing that since the state has no money!

Here we go.

Okay, here is the answer to our question:

Q: Does the Cash for Clunkers bill apply to used car purchases?

A: Currently, the language of the proposed bill is only for new car purchases. If you are looking for a used car, click here.

I would still like to know why we are giving $4500 to people that can afford new cars. It is essentially a bribe. Instead, why don't we give that $4500 to families or people that are suffering from severe financial hardship, own very old junk cars, so that they can now get a used better quality car?

Kard63 06-18-2009 09:06 PM

Damn, looks like new cars only.

BTW - This program is retarded. It requires practically no increase in mpg on trucks and suv's. Obama has handled the economy with so much more sophistication than the neo-cons could ever hope to understand but this and that terrible medical bill are fucking dirty ass liberal money give-aways.

yep... an attempt to bail out the major auto manufacturers, in my opinion. In that light, it's actually not that bad of an idea, versus just bailing them out.

Used car prices are at their highest level ever. You should get out more or go more places.

Niiiice I found a van that runs on craigslist that gets 10mpg for $300 LOL.

Wizzo 06-19-2009 08:26 AM

I believe I heard that you had to own the vehicle for 2years before it qualifies, but not 100% sure on it...:pimp
