Continental Captain Dies Mid-Flight..still in air

NEWARK, N.J. (CBS) ―

A Continental Airlines flight from Brussels will be making an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport after the plane's captain died mid-flight Thursday morning, CBS 2 has learned.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say Continental Flight 61, a Boeing 777, will land at Newark at noon. Newark was the flight's final destination. It left Brussels at 9:45 a.m.

It's not known what caused the pilot to become ill or how he died.

Officials say there are two first officers on the flight and a reserve crew as well. One of the first officers is piloting the plane.

Reserve crew means it should be okay but still...

But still what? He died and they have backup pilots as they should. It sucks that he died, but people die every day. Even pilots.

Yeah sucks for him, guess it was his time..

CNN ticks me off though, this fredericka woman is just dimwitted for an anchor.. the plane lands, and she proclaims that "at least it has a happy ending........" then seemingly realising what she'd just said she adds "... in terms of landing safely"... goddamn dimwit. There was never a danger of a crash.

Hate to say this but NO COMMERCIAL airplane takes off without a CO-PILOT. Which means that there is someone to land the plane.

obviously ...'but still..it is a tad unusual a thing to happen and glad I wasn't on the flight even if you know in the back of your head it will be okay'

He probably opened up his cc bill and saw he was billed $xxx.xx instead of that $1.00 trial he thought he had signed up for and had a heart attack. Damn you cross sells....

Hurray for backup pilots!

Yeah, they should really do something about pilots dying while in flight. Its a major problem. I hear about it several times a day.

What is it going to take for the airlines to do something about this??? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I would never step foot on a commercial airline with only one pilot but with a co-pilot no worries.

RIP

I wonder what happened to him. It would be interesting to find out.

Funny because when I was thinking of co-pilots I thought of Kareem Abdul Jabbar...for real
