No matter the show, House Hunters, or some remodeling deal they always walk into the house and make some remark about the range. If gas, they love it. If not, they mention it.

When I bought my house, it had a gas range. I had it removed, and installed an glass top electric. My house is set up so I can do either or. However, I prefer the glass top for ease of cleaning. So I have never understood the gas obsession or preference.

I have lived in plenty of places WITH gas, and I do not see what the hub-bub's about.

Bridgette 06-18-2009 05:09 AM

Some people like gas better because it usually means faster cooking. Although, those new Electrolux appliances that boil water in 90 seconds are pretty spiffy. Other people hate gas, say it makes their food taste funny. All a matter of preference, I guess.

Ever used Gas?? Its not bad, and Gas is still cheaper than electric.

Yep.

Grew up in a house that was gas. I remember the matches to light the pilot, and all that b.s..

Have lived in a number of places, in my life, that were gas instead of electric.

Another HGTV question.

Is there one single designer on that network who isnt a raving homo?

Do you need to have a token 'homo' to get a show on HGTV?

The masses are curious.

Amen toe dat shit.

I accidently caught, 'Color Splash', last week while waiting on 'House Hunters'. Within 10 minutes I was like, uh, wtf. There is another show where the whole crew appears to be gays filled with gay lingo.

I do not mind gays, but even I have my limits and can only take so much of the flaming raging limp wrist homos.

I mainly watch House Hunters, House Hunters International, Income Property, For Rent and maybe an occasional other show here and there.

Jdoughs 06-18-2009 05:28 AM

Yeah, I didnt mean to come across like having a gay guy on the show was bad, but its like they specifically hunt out the queerest designer they can find.

They are all so so gay that even the gay viewers are saying 'Omg that dude is raving"

Nah, I knew what you meant.

My tolerance is the same for all that shit. I do not mind that you are a homo designer on HGTV or Bravo. I do not care if you are a Jew on all the NBC comedies. I could care less about the all black cast on the Tyler Perry sitcoms.

However, if you are flaming homo, or constantly referencing you are a particular nationality, or using Sambo slang, at some point you distracting from the story line or show. That said, almost all of them jump the shark at some point.

They just need the Fonz coming across the screen like that WHAMMIE demon in that old game show.

Got Porn? 06-18-2009 05:49 AM

I was watching one of those shows the other day and this chick said she wanted a gas range because its easier to clean and she complained that her glass top electric was hard to clean. WTF? Obviously she has never had a gas range and has been watching to much HGTV.

That was my point exactly!

I have had a gas range, electric with damn tin dishes you had to replace or clean, and now have a glass top. Like with anything there are good and bad, but I love easy clean shit. Glass top is best, and heats up fast enough being new.

But like some others said, maybe it's just their preference and perceived cooking faster or better.

I built a new house 4 years ago and I insisted on having a gas range. It does cook faster and more evenly. But it take 20 to 30 mins to take a part and clean. And after 4 years I would would trade it in for an electric in a heartbeat.

Yep. That is one of the things I HATED about those other ranges. Having to take them apart to clean them, or buying those tins to replace. Just some minor, yet annoying, hassle.

While I have a cleaning lady now who would end up doing it. That doesn't matter. She only comes once every two weeks, and in the meantime, I like to be able to just wipe the surface when I am done and call it a day.

That does seem to be the main characteristic to being a presenter on there.

the stagers the main guy is gay, colin and justin , most of the male designers on Restaurant Makeover, nearly everyone!

The only one's on there that probably ain't are the builders like homes, real renos, and the brian baumler.

But yeah, seems if your gay you get your own show these days :1orglaugh

Gas is faster .. cheaper .. all around just better for cooking .. more "control over the heat" is what chef's will tell you ..

How many straight male interior decorators with a good TV personality do you think there are?

Ah ok.

So for those who cook a lot, they tend to prefer gas over electric.

Interesting.

SBJ 06-18-2009 12:35 PM

although the last 2 or 3 places i've lived have had electric, I'd rather have gas cause like others said it just cooks faster. If you aren't a messy person and watch your shit you cook you don't have to clean up the shit from the stove.

2 things i hate about glass electric stoves are one they are slow to cook.. maybe the newer ones are better.. and two i hate that the glass tops scratch so easy and after a few years the glass stoves look like shit

MichaelP 06-18-2009 12:36 PM

I also prefer Glass Top Electric.. Just bought a new Induction Model... Pretty expensive, but you save a lot on power bill...

+ You can boil a full bucket of water in 90-100 seconds :thumbsup

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-18-2009 12:39 PM

I learned to cook (the few things I cook, that is) on a gas range and I HATE electric. I guess I just do better with fire than with red hot coils.

dready 06-18-2009 12:40 PM

Gas is cheaper, faster to heat up, more controllable, and fire is cool. They are a bitch to clean though.

roly 06-18-2009 12:44 PM

in the UK duel fuel is preferred. gas gives off moisture when it burns so electric ovens are better for baking etc. gas hobs are better as they're more controllable and quicker unless you have one of the electric induction hobs which are very quick.

96ukssob 06-18-2009 01:21 PM

because when you realize you cant afford the mortgage you got, its easier to make your house disappear with a "gas" leak, then leaving the electric oven on :1orglaugh

I like gas because it heats up faster

Here's something I didn't know about these remodeling shows, but was told by my brother in law who's worked off camera on a few of them.

The folks actually pay for the remodeling, but just get a discount for letting them film the process.

The shows aren't footing the bill at all on most of these shows.

I did not know that about ALL of the shows, but some of them I did. Like, 'Income Property'. They almost ALWAYS blow the family's budget on the remodel.

It is not the only show, but that one comes to mind off the top of my head where I see them crying in their beer almost every episode and when they find mold, or water damage, etc..

yup i knew that.. no way could shows like this afford to foot the bill cause they do it EVERY day on air and it's mostly labor work not really much ad placement on these shows..

now shows like MTV's Pimp my ride i think mtv pays to fix up these rides cause they do a lot of ad placements by saying they are installing a Playstation or x brand LCD...

Actually i doubt it's actually MTV footing the bill more than likely it's companies like Sony giving them the Playstations and other nice things to put in these cars in return for on air advertisement

Actually, it's because it shows something more interesting than just a glowing concentric circle. Same reason they fry everything. It's less boring.

Ravage 06-18-2009 03:03 PM

On House Hunters, every fucking person want Granite countertops and Stainless appliances.

I know they say to these fools to really talk about the negatives, but sometimes you just want to slap them for the minor things they complain about.

"Oh the rooms blue, I don't like that. Thats a big negative point"

My brother in law also mentioned that contractors LOVE when people mention that they saw "such and such on HGTV". He knows that anyone watching these shows has seen the HIGH numbers the put on projects. So they mark them up accordingly and no one is the wiser.

Interesting.

Gas is far, far better for cooking. In every way.

camgirlshide 06-18-2009 05:17 PM

The problem with electric is cooling down, not heating up. When you turn down the electric stove it is very slow to react and you have to move the pan to compensate. Gas cools down much quicker.
