Anyone Ever Own An Old School Pinball Machine?

Found a guy on Craigslist locally that is selling an authentic Playboy Pinball machine. It's in fine working order and other than a bit of wear and tear it looks pretty good.

The guy is asking for $1200 for it... I've never owned a pinball machine before but have always wanted one. What do you think guys, should i buy it for the office?

It's hard enough to get them to work already... you really think that is going to help? :)

d-null 06-17-2009 02:58 PM

I remember playing that alot, it's not a bad machine

if I was buying a pinball machine though I remember having alot more fun with the old WWF game

Well we got rid of the keg fridge in the office... We were advised that it might cause some legal issues if someone drove home drunk and hit somebody.

So i got to find something to keep these people enthused.

Mark, make sure there is someone in the area that can service it ...

Shemp, nice to hear from you! :)

Are they prone to breaking down?

The older they get, yeah.

I helped a friend repair a circa-72 pinball machine. The ancient relays were always burning out on the damn thing, and it had such odd voltages of dirty power.

Pinball machines always break down i know from experience my dad owned an arcade for about 25 years. You will definitely be needing service from time to time. :thumbsup

fuzebox 06-17-2009 03:28 PM

I've always wanted a tabletop pacman machine :thumbsup

me and my band had a Black Knight 2000 in our rehearsal room - great machine. but they need intensive care and especially electronic problems on the old machines are hard to fix. we had to call a specialist a couple of times. you also need to clean and oil them regularly, otherwise they become slow.

it's no xbox or playstation but the fun makes up for it. i'm old school, i rather play pinball the whole night with a keg of beer than some shitty video game :)

Jman 06-17-2009 03:38 PM

Talk to DVP he's got loads of them ;-)

Seriously, it's a pinball machine. It's not like he's talking a Frogger console.

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I spent a year fixing pinball machines, video game boxes, DDR machines, and other 'assorted' arcade amusements. better believe the Shemp

I owned the South Park pinball machine - and it rocked owning one - but then I could fix it myself.

in good condition - 1200 is a fair price tho - good luck :winkwink:

LOL! Dooooh should have put 2 and 2 together! You're right they have a ton of pinball games in their office. I'll give those guys a shout and get some feedback :thumbsup

fris 06-17-2009 05:40 PM

Must be a place in toronto that has old machines, since arcades arent really around anymore they would let them go for cheap, just a haunch

I'm curious about this too. How do the new machines stack up? I assume they're a lot less susceptible to breaking down?

Rochard 06-17-2009 05:59 PM

Years ago on Christmas morning we had opened up all of the presents and were quietly playing when suddenly there was odd noises from the basement. My brother and I ran downstairs to see what was making these noises. Turns out it was a star trek pin ball machine.

My step father's shop was next to pinball repair shop and he worked out some kind of a deal for it.

I still have no fucking clue of how they got that thing down the stairs.

Basic_man 06-17-2009 06:04 PM

For the office? Forrrrrr sureeeeeeeeeee!

Think Python ;)
And ask the Python staff for sure, considering how many machines they have at work, they would definitely know.

awesome. There are a couple out there that I would really like to have myself.

I logged a serious amount of hours at a pizza place on this one:
Gillian's Island
http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=1004

Recently at this resort they had free play on this one:
LOTR
http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=4858

was really impressed with it. Either of those I'd really like to own.

Played a lot of a terminator one too. Didn't dig on it that much, but it was better than the other one that was next to it.

JimmiDean 06-18-2009 05:59 AM

I have three in my basement/bar including a table top centepided video one.
I used to be an electronic tech and at some point you damn near nead to be to keep them running.
That said they are a ton of fun and parts are available from all types of shops on the net.
But these machines are aging and they do break.

BlackCrayon 06-18-2009 06:05 AM

i doubt i would pay that much for it but i've always wanted one of those.

I'd get it if it is in really good shape. The playboy one is perfect for an adult office, classic.
