advanced board whoring tips and tricks

i always found it interesting trying to figure out different marketing methods, i noted some tips/angles/tricks that i think people use on gfy to pull in traffic, but never saw spoken about:

The first few posts get a lot of views, farther down the page you get, the less exposure, then the 50th, 100th, 150th, etc posts get some nice views

The shorter and more to the point the post is, the better. the longer a post, the more people will skip it. Learned this from serge, the master, who once claimed to not have a post longer than 3 lines.

Also from serge, views are the only/primary factor, is whether you can draw views.

You can get additional branding from having your business name in your handle. one of the best areas of real estate on gfy is the first 10 lines under Thread Starter on the front page. if you can get your name to appear there, you get 10X+ the exposure of a large banner (thats why you see those contests where companies are willing to throw down $ to have their thread title at the top of gfy for an amount of time)

Board traffic is much greater during the week then weekends, and around noon or so during the week is when its the fastest

what else, or how wrong am i on some of the above points?

RyuLion 06-15-2009 12:56 PM

SBJ 06-15-2009 01:05 PM

HookUPcom 06-15-2009 01:06 PM

also, i've learned to ask more questions when starting a post, vs. just talking about myself.

Has anyone else found that to work?

What else has worked for the masters? ;)

SilentKnight 06-15-2009 01:09 PM

You left out using fake nicks to bump your own threads. :1orglaugh

webmasterchecks 06-15-2009 01:10 PM

thread title is probably most important factor to thread clicks, with poster being #2

a good thread title needs to be interesting, sensationalistic, relevant to thread content, touching on current social topics, etc

Having multiple hot chicks in your avatar does not hurt either. Hope to see you the little lady and the naughty teacher soon.

HookUPcom 06-15-2009 01:21 PM

And include the word "Tubes" in the title... Make sure you do that a few times...

Who doesn't like to complain about tubes destroying the biz?

When does that start for you? :winkwink:

The Heron 06-15-2009 01:24 PM

Your post was too long I didn't read it!

SBJ 06-15-2009 01:25 PM

if it's a "breaking news" thread and you are the first one to view the thread post "going to read it now WOW" to get your sig there.. then go read the link :2 cents:

also don't be annoying and post in every thread. Post in threads where you might have something to say in the thread

most of my tips are for posters cause I don't post many new threads

Multiple smilies = complete loss of words :1orglaugh

But seriously, you can't replace the ability to be clever when posting. Or have an arguably amusing gimmick (i.e. MikeyD's jerkoff gifs). Then you have Juicy's tactic of keeping everyone guessing - testosterone or estrogen? :1orglaugh

When possible try to include the word bacon in the thread title or at least a pic of bacon within your post.

How goes it old buddy? ltns

gideongallery 06-15-2009 07:04 PM

be right
ultimately you can say anything as long as what you say is correct
you may take a lot of heat in the begining but ultimately when people finally hire the lawyers to check out what you are saying they will find out that you are correct and back off.

OK! I'm SOLD!

DWB 06-15-2009 09:11 PM

Just make posts that will get people talking. Good or bad. Just get them talking and disagreeing with one another or you. It will stay at the top and come back long after its gone when people bump it just to fight again.

GFY loves a good drama thread.

I Like POO!

Jack Sparrow 06-16-2009 06:02 AM

Goddamnit im late in this thread.

What about the last reply, everybody say "AYE" if you read this one!
(ps. im gonna try that "just keep people talking" one time soon, with a "catchy title", and it even is a true story).

Stay tooniet!

Sarah_Jayne 06-16-2009 08:01 AM

All this is true. However, I have found the best 'results' both short and long term come from threads where an actual conversation takes place. Firstly, it is just better networking and easier to actually keep interesting. Secondly, it will keep itself up the page because an interesting conversation is more addictive than just random postings in a thread.

Iron Fist 06-16-2009 08:15 AM

Apparently using fake nicks to drum up drama doesn't hurt either... bonus points if you can get your fake nick banned.

webmasterchecks 06-16-2009 10:08 AM

posts where somebody posts a pic of their new ferrari and everyone clicks their link to try to figure out how they were able to get the $ to buy it

deserv 06-16-2009 10:14 AM

i'm asking 20dollars a month to bump your thread every 24 hours, how wants it? :D

whatif_3 06-17-2009 08:35 AM

the thread title matters most, in my opinion, next is the person who is posting it. like in marketing, you can try 100 thread titles to get 1 amazing productive one
