They use high pressure to blow the fiber lines a few miles away to a hook-up point.

Cool to see how that works :pimp

Finally we are getting some real speed and can do inhouse hosting too.

Hi Chris
Yup, so my clients can soon download all our stuff from our local TerraByte filers.
I've been wanting this for many years :winkwink:

little advice for the office. See if they can do rate-shaping for your files ips. There are devices that can do it inline with your network. And limit your file servers to say 40Mbps or so. Or else you could get someone sucking it down to their server and saturating your office and making life miserable for you :)

MichaelP 06-10-2009 09:22 AM

WOW Nice connection :)

Wow 50mbs is huge.

They just ran new fiber infront of our office 100mbs up and down for $1,600 a month. Time to upgrade!

Loch 06-10-2009 10:00 AM

Cable companies are now competing with fiber companies.
120Mbit downstream and 10Mbit upstream (for consumers at only 40 euro a month)
http://www.upc.nl/internet/fiber_power_120/
(over coax cable)

Ohh tell me about it, however here in Canada they are JUST getting to this volume.
Still pretty hard to get and you need to basically have your office built on the backbone.
I have called 6 companies now and they are all getting back to me this week although i would be lucky if even 1 can deliver

Man sometimes i just want to move to Sweden where you could get 10/10 8 years ago for 200 bucks

noKru 06-10-2009 11:10 AM

whoa congratz !
I need to move somewhere where I can get that kind of speed -_-

John-ACWM 06-10-2009 11:25 AM

Looks pretty high-tech.Congrats for the new connection!

tranza 06-10-2009 01:00 PM

It must be a pretty hard work for them, huh?

notime 06-11-2009 01:41 AM

5 different companies are needed to do all stuff. LOL
-one just diggs the sand
-one lays the pipes
-one comes to put the fiber thru the pipe
-another comes to connect if from the entry point to the 19'' rack
-the last brings the router and installs it

notime 07-03-2009 05:33 AM

IT'S WORKING !!!!!

50 fucking Mbit UP & DOWN

sweet!!!!!
