There's a 2 year backlog at the US Copyright office

what a fucking government - not only does their piece of shit Digital Millenium Copyright Act give thieves the legal right to steal hundreds of millions of dollars from copyright owners but it also can't process copyright registrations in a timely manner. there's now a 2 fucking year backlog. And the law is so bad that there are jurisdictions I read that you can't sue for statuatory damages until your copyrighted work has officially been registered.

madonne!

Are you sure ? I submitted 2 apps for registration in March and they were finished about 2 weeks. Just waiting for the registrations to arrive in the mail.

I used the online app though.

WiredGuy 06-08-2009 07:22 AM

Will the USPTO at least give you credit for submitting your application on today's date rather than 2 years when its processed (assuming it passes their qualifications)?

Thanks for telling us, Mutt. I wondered what happened to the copyright registration for my LA Metro poster. I applied in November 2007, and the bastards cashed the check, but I haven't received any documentation.

there was a thread on Model Mayhem's forum - that's where I read it. You may be waiting a very long time to receive anything if what I was reading is true.

Nope -- got all 3 registrations today. Total time March 9 - June 8th. Now I get to file a really nice copyright infringement and right to publicity lawsuit.... mainstream celebrity clients vs. a world wide distributed magazine with 1.5 million copies sold.
