"We discovered America, even if it was already there. We deliberately let you win the War of Independence, because you threatened to cry if we didn't. And you very kindly joined us for the last few minutes of the Second World War, for which we thank you".

Hehe.. I believe it actually may have been before them. But anyway.
Sadly this is something that NONE of us should argue over as MANY MEN FROM MANY Nations died that day. |

You know, it takes a certain type of arsehole to turn an historical event where millions of people sacrificed their lives into some type of flag waving, self important pompous rendition. Congratulations - you fail to see the point of D-Day remembrance completely. |

I read this article last night and found it pretty interesting
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31115510/ Next to it is a video interview with a soldier that was there. You sometimes forget how crazy it must have been. You know that sinking feeling when you get into a bad situation, well I can only assume when those landing boats opened up and the soldiers looked out, it must have been that feeling times 10 MILLION!! The water was red and bodies were just floating past you. Crazy stuff. But like most things, the planning of the invasion was a failure and the soldiers on the ground were the ones that pulled it off. Just like Iraq, the whole plan was a total fuck up, the soldiers on the ground should get all the credit for any success that comes from it. That seems to be how battles go. The leaders fuck up, and the soldiers end up pulling it off anyway. |

One thank you thus far...which does not surprise me...as this board has more than its fair share of Euro trash that prefer to bash the USA.

This thread should read "Attention cowardly and pitiful French collaborators". :2 cents: |

Just like every dutch person wasn't a collaborator during their occupation, same goes for the french.... |

You have to remember though that at the time we were still more tightly tied to Britain and really, had to defend the "motherland".. I didn't realize until just the last few weeks though just how instrumental our ports and tiny little navy was in ensuring the convoys kept the supplies flowing into the UK. |
