New Youtube interface

This morning YouTube invited a small group of press to unveil the latest evolution of the site?s viewing experience. It?s called YouTube XL, and it?s going to bring the vast majority of YouTube?s content to your TV or large-screen computer monitor. It?s already live, and you can check it out here

Ugly as hell

TeenCat 06-02-2009 04:18 PM

ooh ... that is the final design interface? step twenty years back ... yeah, excelent 80s retro ... also, why do we need some crappy wmp in tv? now you have to click like idiot to find anything, no no, this will be not going public imho ... :2 cents:

SomeCreep 06-02-2009 05:17 PM

hmm, it's alright i guess

rowan 06-02-2009 07:25 PM

The look n' feel reminds me of a cheap Asian DVD player.

Yngwie 06-02-2009 08:16 PM

is that the best that they can do?

heymatty 06-02-2009 08:34 PM

Wow I think thats the ugliest thing I have seen google produce in ages.

Zorgman 06-02-2009 10:04 PM

I get nothing, it's not a blank white page.

This will go public but it is going to go through many cycles after release. They need money and the sooner they can release this the sooner they can segment iptv as separate vertical for advertising dollars

NaughtyRob 06-02-2009 11:30 PM

Ugly but much simpler.

hypedough 06-03-2009 01:13 AM

It looks like it was built for the iPhone. Ughh what a lame layout, I really hope this isn't the "future" of Youtube. Where are the comments and such?

Nautilus 06-03-2009 01:22 AM

So ugly it is un fucking believable for a large company like this. Any $10 gallery designer lurking at GFY would do better.

signbucks 06-03-2009 02:23 AM

looks very unusual

thinkhype 06-03-2009 06:47 AM

woah, i wonder which designer got that contract. good concept though

have you guys found a way to get the videos in HD/HQ? seems like it's on standard quality by default...

StuartD 06-03-2009 07:00 AM

I wonder how many people commenting on the design even realize that this is for TV, not a standard browser.

Scott McD 06-03-2009 10:26 AM

There's just no pleasing some people... :1orglaugh

Roald 06-03-2009 10:47 AM

All great news and all but this final piece of text sums it up for now I would say:

"Now the site just needs to work on bringing more premium content to YouTube - it’s fun to watch silly user-generated videos on my computer, but if I’m going to couch surf through YouTube on my big screen TV, I’d rather watch content that’s a little more polished."

Thats where youtube is lacking already imo and reason they hardly make any real money currently. They will need to come up with some good contracts with the big production companies to makethis XL thingy work out I would say.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-03-2009 11:33 AM

Meh. It doesn't search when you hit enter, you have to click the search with your mouse. It's the small changes that get to me.

I Love The Yayo 06-03-2009 11:38 AM

Jesus, that's fucking ugly! It looks like the 90's.

I was thinking what it reminds me of and that must be it!

michael.kickass 06-03-2009 12:40 PM

It's ok I guess. I think they should worry about letting us post better quality videos instead of this..

jakethedog 06-03-2009 12:43 PM

simple .. to the point .. but SLOW as hell... Still loading ... still loading

Basic_man 06-03-2009 12:49 PM

It's awesome1
