Cheap hosting to good to be true?

I found a hosting company called iicinternet. They seem to have great prices? Anyone ever try them?

Yes, I am using them now! Shit for support. a bunch of dumbasses! Expect at least two weeks for any questions or technical issues. They have a phone number but you call and they just say to email and don't answer any questions. Constant mistakes when they do do something. Then you need to wait another two weeks for it to be fixed. I have been there for a month and I haven't even got my sites up becasue of all the problems. So I can't comment on the speed.

do a search on the webhostingtalk forums. I am in the process of changing to a dedicted server.

What is cheap?

I'm using elevated hosting now, which has great support, uptime - prices start at 7.99 month. Their overage charges are a little high and they don't offer .htaccess (strictly win/iis) so I'm look at switching to ezprovider.net - 10.00 month .htaccess support and better overage charges.

I also just signed up for revshare hosting to check that out. free but yet to find the catch as I'm still waiting for approval.

:2 cents:

I'm having great luck with the folks at www.cheapbw.com. Servers are fast, you can do .htaccess but no server-side scripting, and it's pretty cheap. Several minor support emails have been swiftly and helpfully answered.

I think these guys have a relationship with xfreehosting, which IMO rocks pretty hard in the free-host category -- I've got a couple of freehosted sites that have been up solid for eight months or so with no bullshit. However, for all the obvious reasons I'm finally easing even my first sorry-ass newbie efforts over to paid hosting. I think the thing that finally tipped me over the edge was discovering that I had a site in a number four spot on Google coming up under the title: "Free Penis Enlargement".... :waaaaahh

I was with Iicinternet for one week, then I said goodbye to them.

You can guess why...

currently with www.reliableservers.net for my dedicated server needs , the yhave a virtual hosting site www.reliablehost.net

baddog 11-28-2002 03:03 PM

if they provide their own hosting, I would shy away from them. This page is taking forever to load.

Wonder if they even allow adult sites to be hosted, they don't mention it

salsbury 11-28-2002 03:10 PM

$7.99 per month.

wow.

i wonder why a company would bother offering that, frankly..

KDizzla 11-28-2002 10:11 PM

I guess i will stay away from them. Thanks for the input.

Hehe, I can totally relate to you!!

By the way... about the dumbasses... I think its more 1 dumbass... Since everytime I call, its always the same emotionless/lazy guy who answer the phone....
The question is how can they have 40,000 account and 1 tech guy!?!?

And everytime I call , this ass always tell me that my problem will be resolve whitin 20 minutes.... with them 20 min. equal on average 48h !!

I once gave them shit by email.... but I dont seem to have the guts to do it by phone.... Did anybody ever told them by phone that their support was extra crappy and that they should hire more tech personel?

I just wanted to give my two cents abouts about the hosting industry. Alot of companies out there do their pricing conversions completely wrong inorder to get you to think you are getting a good deal. You will see companies who offer to sell streaming at .40 to .50 a GB. The problem is they then sell the bandwith to you buy the Mpbs. They say you can get 300 GB out of 1 Mpbs and they charge you $150 an Mpbs. The problem is that you can't get 300 GB out of 1 Mpbs. You could if the hosting company was shaping their bandwidth or if your customer were accessing the content continuously, the problem is, as you all know you get traffic in peaks, due to the loss of time in these peaks all you can really get out of an Mpbs is 150 to 160 GB a month. So your real cost is like a $1 a GB.

Just wanted to put that out there, I have been watching all this for a while, and wanted the truth to be known.

True for some hosts but not for all. I sell hosting by average usage, so it accomodates peaks and valleys. To average 1mbit you'd probably be in a range of 500kbit to 3mbit all month. So yes, it is possible to get your money's worth. It seems to me you must be referring to hosts that cap the bandwidth.
