.... what is the best remedy to kill off these damned mosquitos?? I try to periodically work from my laptop on the patio and this time of year these mosquitos start biting. Mosquito Magnet any good?

I'm outside everyday, but I do it to soak up sun. The mosquitoes usually don't come out until it starts to set, so it's not an issue.

I tried those anti glare things and other shit and none of it works if the sun is really blazing. I have all but given up actually working outside. I just either bike or work in the yard.

Get a bug zapper and drowned yourself in repellent.

I can't work outside myself the glare is too much.

in AZ we don't have the mosquito problem thankfully but the sun is far too hot or bright to work outside on a laptop.. I use to set out by the pool late at night though and work and it was nice :2 cents:

My enclosed screened in back porch works just fine for it lol

Ok feeling crappy right now.. not sure if it was the tacos from earlier, or I am getting sick... ugg

TwinCities is probably from Minnesota, where the state bird is the mosquito.

Those citronella candles work ok, there's those tall wood posts with the shit at the top that smokes and keeps 'em away, can't remember what it's called. Or smoke a cigar :thumbsup

Around noon there are almost no mosquitoes unless you are in a very large shaded area, then they can be around 24 hours a day.

Someone told me if you eat bananas, you attract more mosquitoes, not sure if that's true or not. It was some ex military guy and that's what they taught him if he was going into an area with a lot of the little blood suckers.

As for the glare, every laptop now has that stupid glass cover over the screen so glare is so bad even inside, outside they are impossible to use for more than quickly checking email or something.

I wish they still made a few laptops with the matte screens but I can't find any.

Panasonic Toughbook might do the trick.

I light up these anti-mosquito things that just emit smoke

Works ok

bobby666 06-02-2009 04:29 AM

here in europe we use "Autan"

Mr Pheer 06-02-2009 04:47 AM

Move to the desert.

Have your back porch screened in. It pretty much fixes your problems. The couple that might still get in you can burn one of those gay mosquito candles and takes care of them.

Put in a small rock garden water pond and add some goldfish or koi. Anything "man-made" will only kill mosquitos in certain stages of their lives (there are 4 stages) Fish on the other hand will eat them in ALL stages so they are by far more efficient.

When we added our first pond it cut down on the mosquitos population at our place probably 80% within the first few weeks. As a side benefit, the water gardens are relaxing and if done right, usually increases the property value :)

Now as far as sun glare, the only thing I've found to work worth a damn in full sun is to cut out a small box that fits over the laptop with a few inches clearanceat the top and enough overhang to cover the keyboard. That allows you to still see it but puts it in some shade so the screen is still visible. It works pretty good until the wind kicks up ...... but it doesn't say much in the "fashion statement" area :winkwink:

We have one of these at home and one at the lake. It works wonders:

Off makes a product that has built in sunscreen and repellent. You can get an SPF 8 or so, which is good for tanning, and it will keep most of the bugs away. At the same time get some citronella candles and burn them under the table near your feet. But dont knock them over.
