Xbox Fluid = Awesome
Was watching TV and heard about this.
Using technologies ranging from face recognition to using hand gestures to move stuff around or steer a car in a game. Xbox could potentially blow out the Wii with the fluid. Full article about it: http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...e3_in_los.html Preview combining it with fightnight round 4: Im pretty stoked to see this in action. |

Nintendo really captured the market with the Wii, even if Xbox responds Wii will compete.
|
looks like awesome technology
|
i think its going to be a mega flop
microsoft can't get their own good idea so they're trying to build on the wii for sure, but the thing is with this machine you actually have to be up and about it looks and thats going to alienate a big chunk of the market like old people who liked the wii because it was a simple way of controlling the game intuitively - but not necessarily liked it because of the whole motion thing but just because it was something different |
I'd be interested in this if they don't fuck it up.

The coolest feature I read about so far.. face recognition, so when you walk by the thing, it recognizes you and logs you into xbox live. Could be interesting. I prefer to hold the controller in my hand, but I am not the target for this product.

This is pretty advanced motion sensing technology. The company they bought it from does military research and applications.
Some of the stuff they showed in the demo was a person writing on a piece of paper, then "handing it" to a character in the game. The camera scanned the writing on the paper and the character took the piece of paper. The characters also recognize you by your face, so that could add a huge element to RPG games. BTW, the actual system is called Project Natal. From what I've seen, it's waaaay ahead of the Wii. Unless it turns out to be super expensive or the demo was faked, this should be a big hit. |

The Wii is just a GameCube with novelty controllers, it'll never be able to keep up.

It'll all hinge on price...it looks great but especially given the economy, they could still lose by setting too high of a price, which given how much that tech likely cost them, they may have to do. Also, I think some people have a point in that it may be TOO active for some people, namely older people. A karate game where you can actually do karate to play it is nice, but some people would rather press buttons or move a controller around a bit to kick someone's ass instead.
I thought the skateboard game was funny - talk about static electricity builder, lol. |

PS2 eyetoy anyone? Remember that?

What seems iffy now will be the standard in just a few short years. 2012 you will probably see this technology in many different applications. No word as to what the price will be but many experts are predicting somewhere around $80 |

That alone makes the Wii unique. Quote:
