I spent the weekend with knights in shining armour (pics)

Last weekend, we went down to Wales to spend some time with friends. One of them was working for the weekend at a historical re-enactment place outside of Cardiff. It is the place used to film the BBC tv show Merlin and every now and then they have these weekends. I wasn't sure if it was going to be boring or not but it actually turned out to be a lot of fun.

Plus, there were a lot of things for my camera to catch:

Not this time because I wasn't sure what the place would be like. However, we are probably going down for their big Halloween bash and I will then.

Medieval festivals are always cool. We've gone to a few in the past - always a great photo op.

Nice shots Sarah. :thumbsup

It might have happened just like that *if* the real guys had drunk as much beer beforehand as those guys did. If there is one thing that lot liked more than dressing up it was drinking beer and mead. Not sure why people thought it was then a good idea to give them weapons.

We only got him to turn around by yelling 'Free Beer!'.

He was really nice though.

It may have been cheered. The village is on site of an actual Medieval village that did get wiped out by the plague.

I don't see any knights in shining armour but I do see some fat dorks dressed up in costumes. Yay I guess.

So that's how guys get away with wearing skirts without being called gay!

Ah I do love the medieval festivals. I went to one where they used a (rather small) trebouchet to destroy a wooden palisade. Sounds a bit lame, but those were some heavy boulders they were hurling. I was impressed.

Where would you get the costumes? Do they make them? I would like to dress up as Xena for Halloween and want a realistic costume. Not the Plastic crap at the Halloween stores.

A lot of them get very serious about making them. There were a couple of tents around the site that were selling costumes too. They get really anal about things being correct about whatever period they are representing.

Yeah...things that would otherwise sound ultra lame are actually fun to watch at these events.

Indeed..I have pics of us taking dogs for a walk around the lake. One of which decided she needed to go for a swim.

These guys take it a lot more seriously: http://www.darkonthemovie.com/
I watched this, and the leader of the largest clan is a real Dwight Schrute.

StaceyJo 06-02-2009 05:58 AM
