Texas Woman Told to Remove 'Offensive' American Flag From Office

Debbie McLucas comes from a patriotic family ? her husband and both of her sons served in the U.S. military, and her daughter is currently deployed to Iraq on her second tour of duty as a combat medic.

So when McLucas arrived at work at a Texas hospital last Friday, she was stunned to be told that the Stars and Stripes she had hung in her office in advance of Memorial Day were offensive, and that the flag had been removed.

?I got into work, I was met by my supervisor and told that there had been multiple complaints, that people found the flag very offensive and it had been taken down," McLucas told FOXNews.com.

"I went to the office to retrieve it and found the flag wrapped around the pole, sitting in the corner on the ground. I was speechless."

McLucas, a supervisor at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield, Texas, had displayed the 3-by-5-foot flag in the office she shares with the hospital?s three other supervisors. McLucas said one of her colleagues, a woman who immigrated to the United States from Africa 14 years ago, complained about the flag to upper management, and the hospital decided to take down the flag.

"I was told that as long as my flag offended one person, it would be taken down," McLucas said.

She said the hospital told her that the American flag flying outside the building would have to suffice. "I was told, ?There is a flag hanging out front, everyone can see that one. Is that not enough??"

No, she said, that wasn't enough.

"It is more than I can even fathom, that you would find the American flag offensive, in America," McLucas said.

A Kindred Healthcare spokeswoman did not return calls for comment. Kindred issued a press release stating, ?Kindred Hospital Mansfield has a great deal of appreciation for the service that many of our employees and their families have given to their country. We honor our veterans and active military through a variety of benefits and service programs. This was an isolated incident between two employees that we are working to resolve amicably.?

The statement went on to explain: ?The disagreement was over the size of the flag and not what it symbolized. We have invited the employee to put the flag back up.?

And it will go back up and stay up, McLucas said.

"I do think they're trying to do the right thing. I have no reason to believe the flag won't remain there as long as I'm employed."

Well, some people call everyone flaunting a finnish flag a racist (I'm exaggerating of course). But generally the flag is used when there's a national holiday, or half-mast if someone dies. That's it.

We don't have stickers, small flags etc EVERYWHERE like people in the US.

I thought it was simply amazing when I was in the us, the flag was fucking everywhere. What's the point. People also disrespect it there, dirty flags, flags touching the ground etc etc.. In finland a dirty flag would be burned.

I get the feeling that the 3-by-5-foot flag was just too fucking big for an office she shared with 3 other people. And I bet she put the flag up just to try and piss people off.

When I go on vacation to the USA with friends I always joke that US citizens are very patriotic as you see flags flying everywhere. We have a laugh about it etc but its actually really good how much they love their country.

I think its a joke that someone who wanted to live in the USA has a problem with a colleague flying a flag in their office. Its a disgrace. They chose to live in that country so they should put up with stuff like this.

The reason this country is gonna fail is because of the idiots who immigrate to our country think that because they are now citizens they have rights and we need to change how we are with them.

None of us actually "owns" land. You have a right to be on it while you're alive perhaps, as long as you keep paying property taxes, and follow whatever rules of that period.

People get so wrapped up in the current events of things. Just relax and accept that you live in a changing world. Trying to hold on to yesterday is depressing, and often gets bloody.

I would bet that 99% of racist people in the USA who whine and moan about immigrants, black people, brown people, etc etc have never even had a bad experience with any of them. If they have, it was probably part and parcel of their slanted views.

The city where I grew up near Toronto was mostly white people when I was little. By the time I was in highschool, there was a huge mix of people from all over. Now the city's political system is 70% made up of east indian immigrants.

They realized quickly that if they wanted to have a say, they would have to do so properly through the right means. By running for politics, they were able to get the things they wanted.

I think it's great. I ate in one of their fine Indian restaurants today, it was delicious. I thank them for bringing their culture with them, and I'm happy we've grown enough as a society to not be scared of that.

I can't think of one political thing they wanted that bothered me whatsoever.

I went to the states last year. Travelling NYC, then 3 weeks roadtripping florida. And im completely in love with it. Thats why im treating my GF on a trip to chicago for 3 days, then roadtripping the west.

One thing i loved, was the fact of the flags flying everywhere. It made me feel safe, and i didnt even know why.
