best utility to search multiple files for strings in source code?
Just wondering what the best utility would be (pc based) to search through multiple files (nested folders, etc) to find strings in text files, and be able to display or replace?
eg. I want to find every file in a folder(s) and where in those files that contains a string of code, just by pointing to the initial containing folder |
I do that constantly with Ultraedit.

I dunno if it's the best or not, but I use dreamweaver to do that.

notepad++ . And before that I used a software called Web Weaver that did that pretty well, not sure if it still exists, but Notepad++ is better (and free)

looks like it's well worth the upgrade price when the trial period ends |
There's a neat little editor called PSPad which can do that also, just "create project from directory" and then do a "search / replace in files". It was the only completely free editor I found that can handle multiple projects.

notepad++ is good, i just heard about pspad the other day gonna try it out

Notepad++. Quick to load, has tabs for multiple files and it allows you to search thru all open documents.
