what to do with old ctr monitors?
 

I've got about 5 i want to get rid off. Is there an alternative to chucking them in the trash?

Just give them away for free on craigslist

Find a local school, community program or after school program and see if they want/need them.

recycle, local pc shops may take them off your hands. They just stick them on a shelf and sell them off to another person in need.

Or you could always just run them over with a truck. :) It's a lot more fun than just chucking them.

Need to be recycled at least, don't just throw them away.

goodwill/salvation army

We have a local gun club who will take just about anything. They dump it out in a field and they all get riddled with bullets.

Build a MAME cabinet! hehe

How much do used monitors go for in India?

Check your local town government. Usually they have a recycle day where you can bring in TVs and stuff. That's what I did.

Usually once a year they do it.

I got a few CTX monitors too that have been collecting dust.

donate em to a school or charity(and write it off), do it on some sort of trash amnesty day, or drop it off a building 5+ stories tall(not nearly as fun as fire extinguishers).

OOOHHHH a MAME CAB.. that is a great idea. I just want to make sure that it has a proper PACMAN joystick. My fingers are always so tired using the keyboard by the time I get to the 2nd Key and I always mess up. With a proper joystick, I am sure I could totally get to the 13th key and make the maze disappear.

Otherwise donate to Goodwill and make sure to get your deduction form.

Giving them away is probably the best option or just chucking them.

I have seen a couple people make fish bowls out of them :).

Thats my MAME machine with a 27" CRT monitor. Not a tv.

I built it in 2003 from plans that I downloaded from the internet.

Chuck them in a lake, river, fishing pond, or the ocean. Whichever is nearest...

I hope you 2 are joking. Both these ideas are illegal. Do you how many toxins are in a CRT? Worst case take it to a recycling center.

After doing some research i found many places want you to pay them 20 bucks per monitior to take them. What a joke. That will only encourage people to just chuck them in the trash. Anywho, I eventually found a place that will pick them up for free and donates them to those who could use them (so i guess they only take working ones) which is fine for me.
