What I just can't stand about the LCDs (or any flat screen really) is the messed up
proportion of the picture.
I will not simply set it to fill the screen with picture and watch a bunch of stumpy stretched images, it's awful and not something minor. When I set the picture to be normal proportion, there are huge black areas on each side of the pic, making the watchable area tiny. I would need a 50"+ flatscreen TV to even get near the size of my ol' 32" CRT one. WTF? |
Thats a shame, oh well.

When i first got my widescreen i didnt like it but now im just used to it. Everything is just slightly wider, and now when i watch an HD channel that is made for the tv it looks kinda weird becuase im used ot the stretch look |
Yeah, I hate that to, plus the non-HD channels look a bit grainy at times, HOWEVER HD is taking over and pretty soon none of those problems will exist :)

It's because you have an odd -non native- screen size
|
I find many programs now are broadcast in a way that makes zooming work really well. Hardly anything is cut off in most cases.
|
Zoom on my dvr box makes things proportional.
|
I have two widescreen plasma's and i've never had that problem.
What DOES piss me off, is those thin little ass widescreen movies. It's like, I bought 50 inches for a reason.. why make the movie only use up half the fucking screen you donkies? |
|
old "normal" is 4x3, widescreen is 16x9. To keep a 4x3 (non HD) program in proper perspective, you have to deal with the black bars on the sides. Some tv's have "h-fill" where it just stretches horizontally to fill the edges.. Some have "justified fill" that TRIES (but ultimately fails) to keep things in acceptable proportions while filling the whole screen. And then there's straight up zooms that just push in a set amount. Yeah it's a pain in the ass.
Some people get so used to the stretched look that they think it's normal or no different than the proper perspective.. weird. |
So you're saying you have a HDTV, but not a high def signal?

Not everything is HD, so some stuff looks really terrible on a big TV. I find myself watching my old 36" CRT most of the time. I only use the flat screen for movies and games.

(16:9 and widescreen are diferent) all these formats have some kind of fuckups - its either black areas around the picture, or the picture gets cut off from all sides. |
Turn off the tv.
