I wouldn't worry too much bro. Just dip the brochure into some human feces and return to sender.

i agree that we're probably lower on their agenda - but i've been hearing that they'll try to fuck with your hosting if you are (hosted) in The States...

Can't you sue them for extortion? They have some vague patent from like 10 years ago and they are acting on it now? Too little too late.

It's like the people who invented the JPG trying to cash in now -- same with MP3.

Hehe, host with me in Canada then!

Ok ok ok - I am just joking :)

This acacia shit is a joke tho... Do they REALLY think they are going to get anyone to pay up and go along with it? Please.

m0rph3us 11-27-2002 01:59 PM

Talked to some guys that deal exclusively with a shitload of videos and basically they told me that Acacia is a team of 15 lawyers that boguht patents for the sole purpose of fucking the guys who will pay (us). They have 26 million aside to fight. Microsoft was contacted but they do not want to have anything to do with the adult industry.

I was also told that if anyone challenges the patent, it will be locked for 2 years in order to be reviewed. It seems that at the moment they aren't a direct thread to us. But think of all the HUGE websites that serve video (Yahoo, CNN, MSNBC, Apple, even Mircosoft streams shit on their website)

If any hosts shuts you down because Acacia email them or sent them a copy of a lawsuit filed against you/your company, I would file a lawsuit against the hosting company for illegal termination. Hell, I'd sue a host if they shut me down because of an apic notice. They have no right to terminate the agreement.

all depends on the TOS you have with your host

all apic does is send an email, it's not a legal DMCA notice. He's not a lawyer.

you don't need to be a lawyer to start legal action. What does not being a lawyer have to do with anything?

Yah, sometimes they stick a little disclaimer in there where they can basically cancel your account for any reason.

he's right - they don't use DMCA (which is the way i get sites shut down). apic is a joke. i agree, any host that folds with out proper proof could be opening themselves up to litigation.

you do in order to start legal action on behalf of someone else (hence 'lawyer') :)

If JoeBlow stole your content, can I just go up to JoeBlow's host and say: 'hey look my buddy Sleazy owns this content, please shut down JoeBlow' ?
