CHICAGO ? Is Playboy officially on the block?

Playboy officials would not confirm nor deny reports Friday to XBIZ that the company has placed a $300 million price tag on the company.

Earlier today, the New York Post reported that the company, which trades for $2.85 a share on the New York Stock Exchange, has been in sales talks since February [source].

If the rumor is true, Playboy (NYSE: PLA) is seeking a premium of more than $200 million given its market cap of around $88 million based on its share price.

Doesn't seem right to me, I know the recession and everything has hit quite a few companies but playboy? how can they be doing badly when I can go out and buy nearly a whole house and car made by playboy and a pair of thrilly knickers for my girl with the logo on it?

The financials don't look so good. They are losing over $100m a year and will be bankrupt within a year if things continue the way they are now.

I think the hef days are over. I read the mans biography he is a very impressive guy but he was the first to take adult to mainstream and create a lifestyle. When people were watching leave it to beaver so it had a large impact.That cant be recreated.
