Very proud of my dad :)

My dad - who is 64 - has recently retired (laid off), and decided that he wasn't going to sit around the house working out what he will do for the rest of his life. He has been hiking the Appalachian trail since March 27th, and has now hiked 718 miles since then (about one third of the 2,100 miles distance). During that time he has climbed mountains in snow storms, got really fucking lost, and lost a few toe nails.

Very proud of him :)

He wants to finish in September, before it gets too cold in the mountains up in New England.

O MARINA 05-22-2009 02:36 PM

That rocks. So many people retire and just sit around watching TV every day. It is cool to see a guy doing something crazy and living life.

Elli 05-22-2009 03:33 PM

Wow, that's incredible! good for him!

Yen_HerbalRevenue 05-22-2009 03:40 PM

That is truly amazing! There are many younger men that could not accomplish half of that. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

SilentKnight 05-22-2009 03:41 PM

Salute to your father. :thumbsup

Mine turned 71 this month - and he just put the finishing touches on a huge wooden fence replacement in his backyard (encloses their pool).

Its great hearing about seniors who remain active and vibrant in their latter years.

Yen -- the crazy thing is, I think he may live longer than me!

When Shap saw my dad, he thought he was a young step dad or something. He looks about 20 years younger than he is. He has been a vegetarian since he was 16, was a fitness instructor, yoga instructor, personal trainer, and marathon runner. He has also had a string of girl friends half his age.

When I went dog sledding with him (which mostly consisted of running, and not much sledding) -- I was fucking exhausted after the 15k circuit. He looked like he had been for a quick walk round the block LOL.

He is quite the dad, that is for sure :)

mmcfadden 05-22-2009 10:34 PM
