Rachshack or UnitedColo??
 

I've been looking around for some good prices on dedicated servers. Seems like Rackshack and UnitedColo are about the best prices. But I have been reading on a webhosting board about alot of downtime with Unitedcolo. Anyone with them? How is the downtime?

Also wondering about Rackshack. I have heard that alot of tgp's have been banning people submitting on rackshack servers. Is that true? Or is it just one or two tgps that have done this. I know that easy pic has but they are moving to preferred submittors only anyways.

The downtime at Unitedcolo has been sporadic, 10 minutes at a time. Overall they are pretty good.
To my knowledge there are only 2 or 3 tgps that have banned Rackshack.

Im happy w/ RS. Dont know about the ip-range banning, seems silly to ban a whole ISP.

Do a GFY search on rackshack.

It's funny, even in the hacker/script kiddy commmunity they all know rackshack is a peice of shit.

Apparently their network packet filtering is horrible & even the smallest DoS attack can take your box out idefinitely :thumbsup

I use Rackshack for premium pay sites - no problems.

They have had a few dos attacks, resulting in a couple hours of downtime. I guess with - what is it now 10,000? servers you are a bigger target.

Overall I would say they are more professional and more stable than just about anybody.

One thing to consider - they claim they can make money with those $99 to $129 servers, and their growth is at everybody else's expense.

Why some idiot would ban tgp from RS is beyond me. An urband legend I suspect. If anything RS is *too* agressive in policing their servers. If they even smell you doing something wrong, your server gets pulled, obviously.

My guess is they will canabilze the whole industry and have the rest of the hosters eating their young to survive...

If you want some *real* opinions about RS log into their user support forum. With thousands of users there are only a few sour grapes, quite an accomplishment.
