What it is with mainstream?
 

I am trying to build a few mainstream sites, not so much for the $$ but for the traffic down the road, as I am working on some mainstream ventures that could benefit from it.

I have to tell you, trying to build traffic for a mainstream site is like sticking a spoon inn your eye. I get lots of hit from adult blog directories to my adult blogs but absolutely NOTHING from mainstream blog directories to my mainstream blog.

Of the hundred I tried submitting to in the first place, I dumped $85.00 because they were pay only. Why the FUCK would I want to pay $30.00 for exactly TWO worthless hits a month?

You can't find any link lists or directories (non-pay anyway) because everything in mainstream seems to be paid advertising.

Then there are the affiliate programs. If you can show me a mainstream affiliate program that offers more than a 12% commission, I would like to see it. 50% recurring in adult is not even good enough for most webmasters.

I admit that I am like a fish out of water RE: mainstream adult web-mastering. Any good sites on this side of the biz?

SEO-ing your sites will give you more hits for cheaper.

Search for some of the hottest key phrases, find something that you know/like, write an e-book about it (how to lose 20 stones in five days), then write 50 articles cleverly promoting your e-book, submit to ezine articles, etc.

Set your own price, let people pay by CC and paypal, and that's it - no low commissions, shaving, or other bullcrap.... It doesn't have to be an e-book, but I don't think that it's that difficult to create a product that will sell - well, at least that's the theory - I hope to put it into practice soon and I'll find out if I was right or not.

I've never seen an affiliate with an AFF broker code of over 1 million.

You need to go a long term, totally clean, organic SEO, long tale strategy for mainstream sites. I wouldn't buy a link anywhere unless you checked it 17 times for cleanliness either.

It's like when you began in adult - you need to figure out what niche you're chasing after.

Build up a network of people, develop unique content.

Mainstream is harder in that you aren't given everything on a silver platter, you actually have to work for it.

Creating bullshit sites will get you the traffic that will want to see it - nothing........

I agree with it being about niche and then SEO work for your niche. Most of my mainstream traffic has been organic and whenever I try something else it usually fails.

I have a 9 day old mainstream site that has already done over 40,000 uniques 80% Search engine traffic. :winkwink:

Also 1000 hits in adult from SE for the term "Milf Movies" might make you 50 bucks but 1000 hits in mainstream for the term "diet pills" can make ya 300 bucks.

Advertising mainstream products on porn sites will get you 0 dollars.

If you have a hits ego problem you wont be around in mainstream long, in adult getting a few galleries up on some big TGP's can mean 500,000 hits the first few days, this doesnt happen in mainstream.

The grass is always greener on the other side, mainstream guys are trying adult, adult peeps are trying mainstream.

This program pays MUCH more than 12%, they have weight loss, skin care, anti aging and similar products for mainstream. Also some enhancement products that may be promoted on adult sites as well. Solid guys

any tips of how to generate traffic? I notice there are many outlets but most of them send very little of trafic

Here is my 2 cents, take it or leave it - i did this for a living for many years in mainstream (i have been to way to many conf's), and it got to the point i was about to go completely insane. REAL SOLID SEO IS NOT EASY, SO BE PREPARED TO INVEST ALL YOUR TIME. ALL OF IT.

PPC (Google, Yahoo - as geo targeted campaigns only - anything else, just send me your money to waste for you) taper down as SEM goes up, 400-500 wd pages keywords at 10-12% saturation top heavy, use h1/h2 tags, alt tags lite, understand the basics of meta, get lots of relavant back links daily/weekly (not link farms) - forget the spam blogs (thats adult, not mainstream), grab Fluid SE reverse engineer it and apply it for most of the 2-3rd tier engines, become an editor of DMOZ if you can (its rather worthless for ranks - but it will help you understand what its really all about - the way you write text will fast become king, DMOZ can teach you for free). Understand how important PR is, respect it and study the google alog. More content, more content - a site under 10 pages - blaaaa - worthless. Name your images correctly, learn to slice correctly. If your working with dynamic over static understand URL structure, still the battle will be harder. Forget the doorways, and BS tricks from old days that the old school farts hold on to - BUT go grab a copy of Web Position Gold and understand the fundamentals - read between the lines is what i am saying. Learn to write questions/answers to attract those surfers which are greater in number than you might think. Learn how to use sub domains and apply that to geo targeting campaigns PPC and Organic (focus on organic, but revamp PPC daily). Learn the power of mispellings. Unless you have serious skills and understanding avoid cloaking - Yes shockingly, cloaking still works. A new trick is to go to sites like getafreelancer or elance, or guru or whichever and go to the SEO/SEM sections see what everyone else is paying others to do - tada, there is a reason they are paying. Could do this for hours ... most importantly if your really trying to target mainstream avoid the lessons of adult - different worlds. If you see me at a show, say whats up - i love to talk shit, so id be happy to sit down and freely tell you all i know on this overly boring subject (just come with a Bud Light in hand).

OK, Ok - I am not trying to be a jerk BUT - No i wont provide examples of my work, no i wont work for you, and no i dont care if you think this post is full of shit. If you know a thing or 2, i should have just filled in a few more blanks.
