Am I the only one that thought this was a scam??

http://www.cuil.com/search?q=xxx+porn+movies http://www.cuil.com/search?q=sex http://www.cuil.com/search?q=middle+east Anyone remember the press releases? Their selling point was that they were going to index all pages of the web (Google doesn't even though i think its passed over 1 trillion URL's sometime last year.)... as if that was a plus. I mean, there are obvious reasons Google stopped trying to do that. The search results for almost everything are totally nonsensical When i saw this and read all the press releases, i really thought it was a team of clever assholes who were trying to bait someone into investing a few hundred million or buy them out simple because they could make the claim that they were ex-Google engineers putting it together. ------------------- Welcome to Cuil—the world’s biggest search engine. The Internet has grown. We think it’s time search did too. The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft. Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency. |

Here's the past 4 days... Cuil: 21 referrals Google: 129063 referrals This is on a site with literally millions of pages, either they are having trouble indexing it properly, or perhaps their search engine just sucks. :2 cents: |

Seems some well worded press releases can give you an almost instantaneous thehun level of traffic..... but it doesn't last. I wonder what percentage of all these visitors concluded after about 30 seconds that they wouldn't bother coming back? |
I just did some searches on there and the results were laughable at best...

hmmm... they don't seem to like us... I can't find us ranking... oh well, looks like i'm missing out on a click or 2.

MegaVideo strategy: "better than YouTube" (plus of course all the other "mega" sites in that network) Just say you're better than the biggest competitor and viral the PR somehow and boom, people will check out of curiosity. |

When i was reading about it, i started searching and the results made no sense at all. all this time later and they still make no sense. I think this was just a huge Silicone Valley scam to build up hype over something useless and then sell it off. by the way... this is basically how that plentyoffish.com guy built his site up... he kept doing press releases interviews saying he was the biggest, the fastest growing etc etc etc... until he eventually was quite huge. |
It gives the worst search results.
