I question if the brand can continue once Hef is gone. Their best asset is attracting celebs to do nude pictorials. That is a fickle group of people.

A lot of times the brand or the person becomes bigger once they are dead.
May not seem like it now, but it will be intresting to see how it goes when he is gone. He may become an even a bigger icon if one could imagine that.

The question will be is Playboy bigger than Hef or is Hef bigger than Playboy. And will it really matter when he is gone?

Will be really intresting to see this brand, this company in 10 years from now.
More so all the changes if any they will make.

But I think change is needed. Just downsizing to keep the publication aspects and loss from killing the company isnt enough is it?

The market conditions may not be repairable like it is for other sectors.
Print media seems to be on its way out even without the overall market conditions.

Look at the Newspaper companies. Yes profits are down becasue of the economy and lower ad sales. But overall the market share is down as well. And that is something that even a healthy economy cant fix.

Publication Media companies. The old school stream doesnt look good.

Focusing more on the other streams is the way to go.
And I think its what many of these companies are doing.

Including Playboy.

Hey, even those butt fucking Romans couldn't keep their empire going. Hef had a GOOD run, better than most of us will ever know.

It would have been cooler though if he just pulled the plug rather than have to watch it crumble apart.

I would think that I am in the target demographic for the Playboy mag, and every time I have picked it up, there is nothing to interest me. Not enough pussy, interest, humor, and way too many words. :2 cents:

They're certainly and definitely fixable with or without Hef

Their brand is well known but it doesn't help if you don't sell anything.

I think the wholesale licensing will hurt them in the end. They need to work towards the high end, not allowing their image to be used on any mass produced item.

Maybe they should open branded strip clubs or upscale style hooters or something. Something to sell the lifestyle of playboy instead of actual merchandise which nobody wants.

I agree so many girls would line up to be a stripper for playboy, They could have a chain of the best and most high class strip clubs... That would be really cool.

I can solve all of playboys financial problems I am 110% certain I can but it will mean a bit of a change of direction for them (not much) but like most of these old companies they will do shit their way till the grave

How about some simple fixes based on the revenue they are earning now instead of developing a plan based on past results, or based on current business strategies.

Like develop plug ins for all social media sites, add ons and groups and tools that are all non nude that cash in on the brand, next build adobe air application simple quick one that allows for all subscriptions to be received on the users desktop. Next use the tv and sites that they do have to push traffic not to a "free" playboy.com but to the paid model of and to build it up as a tiered site.

There are 1000's of ways you could save this company, simple and effective but you would need to get rid of half the bureaucracy streamline and remove most of the middle management then look at only parts of the business that drive traffic to their core money making items.

I.E. they could make their tv free or 1 of 1000 other ideas. but guess what they won't and instead we will keep passing them. Great news cause the future of playboy is where we are going to be. Maybe they can hit up Shap and ask him if he is interested in buying it no money down :)
