Wow! Wisconsin court upholds GPS tracking by police WITHOUT warrants!

Quote:

As the law currently stands, the court said police can mount GPS on cars to track people without violating their constitutional rights -- even if the drivers aren't suspects.

Officers do not need to get warrants beforehand because GPS tracking does not involve a search or a seizure, Judge Paul Lundsten wrote for the unanimous three-judge panel based in Madison.

That means "police are seemingly free to secretly track anyone's public movements with a GPS device," he wrote.

One privacy advocate said the decision opened the door for greater government surveillance of citizens. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials called the decision a victory for public safety because tracking devices are an increasingly important tool in investigating criminal behavior.

I wonder what instance is it i going to take before the people in charge review, and correct the patriot act?

Maybe when the feds come busting in through the front door, and take one of these politicians, spouse, or kid, or even them with out saying a word?

Constitution meet shredder. 2 cents (that all I have to say)

At least I can already speak German so when the gestapo busts through my door - I'll be able to scream "Leck mich im Asrch" and I blow their fuckin heads off.

And I used to love this country..........

"Attaching the device was not a violation, he wrote, because Sveum's driveway is a public place."

Is this saying that a driveway is public land, or that it's publically visible? If you're standing on my driveway, you're standing on my property. :2 cents: Anyone who attaches something to my car is at the very least trespassing.

Maybe Mr. Stalker could get them on a tampering charge. :winkwink:

In many places your driveway is considered a place the public is invited to be. Thus motor vehicle laws apply there too. For istance, if you're sitting in your car in your driveway passed out over the steering wheel and the car is running you're driving under the influence and can't claim you were doing it on private property.

How is this any different than an unmarked police car following you as you drive? They wouldn't need a warrant for that either.

this means we can put GPS on all public officials and police officers cars?

if it's legal, we should know exactly where all our public officials are at all times.

But I could spot the car tracking me and legally ditch the motherfucker.

The dif is that I can live like a normal person without someone attaching shit to
my ass. What's next? If you find the device and remove it then is it a a felony!!!!????
I mean after all it's government property place in a legal place....right????

Why dont they just make all of us wear ankle monitors?

I guess pretty soon, all new cars will come with GPS trackers installed from the factory.
