Now many of the biggest high-speed ISPs are considering capping the amount of bandwidth that their subscribers can use per month, a move that could undermine subscribers' free swapping ways--something that many lawsuits have not yet been able to achieve. If people know they have a limited amount of bandwidth available, the thinking goes, they'll be less likely to download voraciously or allow people to upload songs and music from their computers.

They've been capping the new accounts here....course most people like to run servers at home these days so I can see why

They cap my upstream, which does effect my ability to share warez. I have learned to deal with it. But they dont cap my downstream. The mere thought of it has me frothing at the mouth.

Capping is diffrent from limiting from limiting bandwith usage,

I have a 1 gig per day limit at my school, which is why I have 2 nic cards in my computer + an extra in a new box + my laptop so I can dl 4 gigs per day since everything is tracked by the mac ip address ;)

This is how it is with Sympatico in Ontario, we are allowed 5 gig per month - overage is 7.95$ per gig..

yep, i pay for the 10 gig a month and can barely keep it under that, last month 9.1

I'm on satillite..so I'm already capped per day.

I'm in Aussie & were capped big time here for DSL & CABLE use. but I just found a new dsl company which i just moved too that does 12 gigs off peak downloads and 3 gigs peak downloads for US$100. THAT IS FUCKING CHEAP, I was on a US$100 for 5 gigs transfer for the last couple of months and damn that sucks.

I HATE how the phone companies charge you $100 for say 5 gigs tranfer and if you use 7 gigs for the month, the overage and extra $0.25 cents per megabtye makes 7 gigs = $250 or some shit like that, i've been burnt with a $600 fucking dsl bill one month and I only used 12 gigs. How fucking sick is that.

all those aussies after BIG bandwidth of more than 3 gigs a month goto onthenet.com.au. Oh and onthenet don't count uploads, so you can download 15 gigs and upload 20 gigs if you wish for the month.
