Give your kids money they are born.
When I was just born my grandpa/mom/dad gave me $12K - at 18 I took the money out, and it had grown to around $35K...I used that money to invest in a company (family business)
4 years ago, and I get a % of the profits every month. It could have been used to pay for school, but I didn't want to go that route. Interest is a wonderful thing :) I see more and more posts about children around here. So do your kid a big favor and put as much cash as you can into savings when they young. Interest works absolute wonders if you give it enough time. This money will give your kid a good start on life. I'm not really 100% sure why I'm sharing this. :1orglaugh Maybe I just want to see some kids hit 18-19 and have some options. This is good stuff, do it. |
12k only turned into 35k? over 18 years?
|
Some of the money was put in some risky shit and it vanished.
*sigh* mutual finds and bonds are probably the best. |
Well some parents can not afford that, mine could not. I have quite a few peers around that were born with a silver spoon, given money, sent too college, blah blah blah.....
9 out of 10 are as useless as tits on a boar hog. Teach them how to earn/ save money and let them do it on their own. It will mean more to them in the long run and they will thank you more for it. Just my 2 cents Cheers, BV |
Berkelee School of Music is in Boston. I have tons of friends who went, including my cousin.
your friend shouldn't be pissed, he should get off his ass and work during the summer. He could work while he's going to Berkelee too, most people do. sounds like a lazy dude to me. though parents should help their kids out cuz colleges can be expensive but not give your kids a free ride. my parents paid for my school but i also had to work during the summers to get it. i also had to work at a factory, a horrible horrible factory when i was 16. still hate my mother for that one. it wasn't my dad's idea, he was the softie. |
my grandparents put about 7k into a fund for me when i was about 10 and im now 21 attending community college and its up to 50k or so. when i first started college for the first to years i paid for everything myself but this year i finally took $ out. i dont think ill ever use it all but it will be a good down payment on a house when i get out of college. community college is cheap.

No one in my family had much money when i was young, my parents make quite a bit now, but thats only been in the last 5 years or so.
I remember being about 10 years old and my pop gave my $100, it was the most money i'd seen at one time in my life! |
